I don't know what nickname he prefers, but I've seen lots of them mentioned. Same with Anas lol.

Next man up, though, with Q out for a couple more games... Thoughts?

Either McMahon or Levich, if they are going to be playing the 1, are going to have to drive to the basket. If they just stand around the outside and relay the ball, our offense is going to struggle. One of them needs to make the defense collapse on them so that they can dish to the open man.

Both will have a bigger role going forward now that Hicks is sidelined along with Snider. I think it's possible coach slides Mitchell over the the PG spot, and move Adel or King to the 2 spot and go with Johnson and Mahmoud to round out the starting 5. Levitch, Spalding, Mathiang, and McMahon will get the majority of the bench minutes. Might see more of Stockman too.

This is exactly what I expect to happen. I guess I should have prefaced that. I definately do not expect Levich or McMahon to start at the 1.

Hicks certainly looked a million percent more comfortable last night and it certainly translated into his play. He seems to be able to get to the rim when he wants - nice to see him finish consistently last night. I would imagine that he continues to get the starts in Q's absence but, I like what McMahon did last night too. His playing time is almost certainly going to be dictated by his ability to defend who is in front of him.

Hicks is out injured 6-8 weeks according to Coach P

Terrible news considering how Hicks has played over the last two games.

Levitch and McMahon will get additional minutes for sure as they are both serviceable with somewhat similar strengths. These two guys will allow them to stretch the floor.

This is the time when you hope a guy like VJ could step up. He has not really shown that he gets it yet though. This puts even more pressure on the big guys to deliver. They will need more from Ray and Jaylen. Adel as well.

I think Pitino pushes Mitchell over to 1 as we have seen and rotates McMahon and Levitch, but the big concern will be foul trouble with Mitchell.

I also think we see more zone.

King has yet to show that he deserves to start. I think Levitch is a better choice to run the pg with McMahon as his primary backup. King will still backup Adel and DM can still play the 2.

I don't think that will happen. If Rick doesn't think King can start, you'll probably still see Mitchell at the 1. Maybe Levich at the 2.

Actually, if it were up to me, I'd have Johnson and Spalding/Mango at the 4 & 5, let Anas play the 3 and move Adel to the 2 with Mitchell at the one.

Mango plays best with the second unit. He has thrived on the second unit

I read elsewhere that Coach P changed his timeline to 4-6 weeks and said it won't require surgery. This image was posted in an article titled "Rajon Rondo Injury: The recent history of metacarpal fractures in the NBA" on another site (am I allowed to mention other sites here? I would link it if so):

Looks like the above timelines for the listed players not requiring surgery are 11, 17, 21 and 35 days. Although, Hedo Turkoglu required surgery after his first injury but not after re-injury.

It's a "boxers fracture". Recovery depends on where the break is (how close to the knuckle), how bad it was (a clean break would actually be better), and Hicks's healing factor. Some heal fine, some linger forever.

McMahon was hardly standing around last night as he took the minutes after Hicks got hurt.He had 5 assists in the game and I remember most were of the looking in variety. He looked very comfortable running the point and his ball handling is improving.
Pitino will probably play a bit more matchup with him in,although they were playing man as well. The kid's come a long ways.

Teams will have to account for his shooting

The issue with this is kids can't just learn a new position in 3 days of practice. Mahmoud will stay at the 5 at least on D. You want to minimize the amount of adjustments you have to make by having one guy out of injury. Right now it's a PG. Between Levitch and McMahon and Mitchell in spots, we are going to make due until Q is back.

I hate hearing this news, especially for a 5th year senior, as this effectively puts an end to his college playing career. He was just starting to "get it" and finding his way in Pitino's system too.
From the chart gocards posted, he will be back for post season. And hopefully continues to practice in the meantime.

The kid looked more like a point guard than just a spot up shooter in the Pitt game than any other by far. He'll have to get minutes going forward. How many is up to him.
