They can’t and won’t be doing any of that. Obviously they haven’t read the B1G contract very well. The conference would have to grant them the option to do that. Which they won’t, it’s detrimental to the B1G. We play as a. conference or we sit as one.

all the more reason to go independent..

when you let the vote of other schools cost you 100+ million a year, you have to take your own livelihood into your own hands..

Well obviously neither Harbaugh or Day are in agreement with their administrations since both schools voted not to have a season.

At least at Nebraska everybody from players to coaches to University officials to the Governor are all in agreement.

I’m no lawyer but during a global pandemic certain things may be more feasible than you think. In our case, I’m sure Frost has been well versed on our right and possibilities.

Believe whatever you want, but if 3-4 other conferences play football this fall, and the BIG does not play football this fall, not only CAN Ohio State play football, they WILL play football.

It's either that or:

1) Lose untold millions of dollars
2) Lose a ton of high profile football players this season to the conferences who do play
3) Cut the majority of other sports programs
4) Be permanently neutered by the SEC, ACC and B12 in football recruiting.

Yes, people keep bring up the, "well they can't do that" "the contract won't let them" yada yada. You are right I doubt there is any wording in the contracts about once in a century global pandemic. That right there will be enough of a loop hole to get Neb or any other school out of any contracts. Also I am betting Frost wouldn't have brought it up if he didn't already know he could make good on his comments. They have had a long time to let lawyers look over the contracts before yesterday.
Bottom line, Im guessing if Nebraska wants to play or even wants to leave the BIG10 if it comes to that they already know what they can and can't do legally.

Frost's presser yesterday wasn't about what is or isn't in a legal contract. It was about getting out in front of any vote or announcement to apply leverage and pressure. If Nebraska or any other conference school goes their own way to look for games it will be because the conference negotiates an agreement to let them do so. This is kind of fun, it's the ultimate test of who wears the pants at some of these institutions.

I mean the global pandemic won't let Nebraska strip the networks of their property rights.

If you just want to see football on the field this fall we can do that. If you want to make a pile of money doing it...maybe not so clear. We may play just for the enjoyment of it and saving what we can.

The Universities LOST MILLIONS $$$$ when March Madness was canceled. I'm not sure these schools can afford to lose football revenue. If some of these conferences cancel football, especially Power 5, I'm not sure the athletic departments will survive. It may restructure the Div 1 footprint. The NCAA may have to reorganize in a different power structure. This will be interesting to see how it unfolds. Universities can not survive on Olympic style sports. Football and Basketball are the bread and butter of athletic depts.

That's a pretty rigid position. These are interesting and unusual times. Don't you think it would be in the BIG best interest to allow those teams that are confident in the measures they have put in place for covid to compete? It would provide the BIG some revenue. No one has considered the media contracts and how that figures in. If conference teams want to play, I'm sure tv would have some day and be on the side of the universities wanting to play. The conference might be at risk if they kill the season with members willing to play. That may be an interesting argument made by Fox when contest renewal comes up.

Love to see Day push back, well done my man. I hope he does figure out a way that they can play and I would love to see what the B1G could do about it. Kick em out? whatevs, OSU can go anywhere they want, or go indy.

If there was ever proof that big time college sports has outgrown its relationship to universities, this situation has done the job. It might be time to adopt the baseball model and convert Power Five college football to AAA pro ball. (Recent developments about compensating players furthers my argument.) That way college presidents can concentrate on their missions of instruction, research and public service and college football’s millionaire coaches can run their show without being hamstrung by academics.

Of course I understand greedy billionaire pro owners would come unglued by having to fund their minor league. That would be fun to watch.

Yep-this is exactly what B1G schools are looking at if they sit at home while other conferences play. It really stuns me that this isn't being talked about more. And this is exactly why Nebraska and Ohio State and possibly others are looking at other options. It's about either going down with a sinking ship or looking at options that get you off the ship. There may not be much reason to have a B1G conference if they sit at home while other conferences play.

The professionalization of amateur football will be an interesting thing to watch. College FB is popular precisely because a billion people went through Lincoln as a student and it gives them something to cheer for. The Omaha Royals have a far less die hard following. Which I expect if NCAA FB became AAA football, and the Lincoln Mudhens take the field, interest will wane over time.

What folks are really pining for is University affiliation with NFL-esque money attached.

Agreed. Would you say the same for Nebraska? I'm not sure and it isn't as clear cut as with OSU. The B1G has been good for Nebraska but obviously they could get along just fine without us.

I would probably agree with your statement but if OSU and NU do/did the same thing they should be treated the same.

The fine print is being scrutinized for sure. But like in most contracts, it's probably legal if not spelled out specifically

The BIG10 doesn't need us no. They do need Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St. If we attach our cart to theirs the BIG10 really has no options. If these 4 teams threatened to leave or be aloud to play the BIG10 is stuck between a rock and hard place. The let them walk and the best team and the face of conference becomes Wisconsin only. lol Not exactly a power house name there. Not a conference that is going to have tv networks begging to show its games.

I agree, there's a lot of leverage attached to those names. I don't think, however, that ANY of the teams want the B1G to blow up so I'm sure whatever happens will be a compromise.

Maybe something like. Teams can play and create their own schedule for the year but the BIG10 receives half of all revenue made from tv deal, ticket sales ect... Some money is better than no money for all involved.

I agree if the BIG10 is a ***** and decides not to play they shouldn't get a penny. BUT if they have the legal authority to block us from playing. I think the university would take half vs none to be able to play.

nah, then you leave the conference on those grounds right there.

all this 'money' that we were supposed to get from upgrading to the big ten has been 7 years of bs payments, a year or two of increased payments, and now potentially a 100 million dollar plug pull?? no thanks..

I realize not everyone else wants out of this league, but I absolutely do.

Getting out of this conference would be the best thing for Nebraska football to regain its identity again.

No, not this year. All one player has to say is "They are infringing on my rights, the conference doesn't seem to care about me as a ______________ (insert pretty much anything you want) person, someone who has worked so hard to get where he is at and now they want to put their foot on my back and keep me down"

And then it is all over. It doesn't even matter if they are not actually infringing on anything. Not this year, not right now.

Normally I would agree with you but this year is different.
