This stat is telling: Rutgers out-rebounded the Gophers 48-28! On the offensive end, our boys consistently retreated towards mid-court as soon as a shot went up. On defense they watched kids in red swarm the basket for often uncontested offensive rebounds -- second chance points were overwhelming in Rutgers' favor. Just a no-energy effort, maybe a reflection of the head coach's energy level yesterday too.

@jjgramith I think it is safe to say that Rutgers, with its season shooting percentage, probably has more experience rebounding than any other team in the Big Ten. And when you coach enough basketball, you soon learn 1) defense against a strategy that wants to run your legs off and to foul your key players out when you are short handed, is to not go into a scrum under the basket with them - to not tire your players or get them fouled out, 2) that players playing with injuries foul more than healthy players. 3) that when you have players with leg injuries playing, you don't tire them out by having them sprint in hard from the perimeter every 30 seconds for rebounds, 4) and that when you play a team that will push a transition offense to wear your limited legs, you sag those legs down the court on defense when the ball goes up.... Notice last night that the usual guards did not sweep in along the baseline on rebounds? Notice last night that Minnesota did not have the starters of December and needed to protect what it had? Notice Rutgers went after Murphy to foul him and sit him? Notice the early try for transition offense - all to wear down the limited players of Minnesota. So, no, that stat means nothing in this game.... As the old saying goes - when you shoot 100% from the field, your offensive rebound stat is terrible
