Is it possible that Indiana is not as good as people think? This was the first week that the played any type of decent opponent and they struggled.
I know NW is better this year but defending NC at home wins by one score?
Just asking.

I said this in the games thread. It looks like IU has taken a step back but how big a step I don’t know. Still a good team but not as machine like as last year.

NW also looks like a better team but they have a tough schedule this year (IU, PSU, Oregon, OSU, Iowa) so it might not show up in the record.

I saw chunks of the UNT game and while the score might not have looked it, UNT moved the ball on IU decently. Same for NW last night in the second half.

I feel like we have the potential to move the ball as well but the it doesn’t mean we will. They also have two RBs out. I think one for the season and Turbo Richard last night for I don’t know how long. Their 3rd RB Beebe came on strong though. So it could be closer than what we think but that depends on what team shows up and of course killer TOs which have reared their head for us. Or maybe CC gets on them cleans things up and they beat us bad...that’s why they play the games lol I think a loss by 14 or so, still worried about crucial TOs.

I think it’ll be bad.

Northwestern’s defense has to be pretty good. They held Colorado to 7 points! I just can’t see RU defense holding any remaining team on our schedule to under 30 points let alone Indiana. Howard is really really bad and had no semblance of a passing game whatsoever. We’ve shown no ability to stop anyone else.

The offense has enough pieces to be competitive on a given day, but it’s not good enough to score nearly every possession and were rarely going to stop anyone else from scoring. That’s just reality though of course I hope I’m wrong.

Need a strong Rutgers crowd for the Homecoming Blackout Game.
Stop the loud sound system and train whistle to let the crowd get loud before defensive plays!

Agree with that, don't feel our defense will perform as well as NW. To keep it closer, I think it will depend on our offense and no back breaker TOs.

Not as good as last year. I don’t know anything about this year’s Indiana football team, but I do know that’s utter nonsense! Just because they lost their quarterback who was the number one overall draft pick and the 2025 Heisman award winner doesn’t mean a thing. How hard could it be to get an equally capable player? Certainly it shouldn’t be hard to raise enough NIL to keep the talented players from last year’s team now that they are stars and replace the ones they lost with equally or more talented players in the transfer portal. With Indiana’s long and storied football history going all the way back to last season and unlimited NIL money, it is inconceivable that they aren’t as good as last year.

- NW is a better team and better coached than we are
- IU is a much better team and much better coached than we are
- letdowns happen (see: IU last night?)
- Cigs likely woke up today pissed off which is NOT good for us…

….. an some fans are out here are acting as if we beat up a decent team last night. We didn’t. We beat an awful FCS team.

Cigs coaches circles around Greg, their talent on D (better than USC) holds down our offense and they score on us at will.

Start winning games and the crowd will be loud before every play. It’s THAT simple.

Indiana is the King of the Hill so everyone is gunning for them hard this year. Opposing players and coaches are bringing their best games. Last year Indiana barely beat a bad Iowa team, and only in the last seconds did they beat a Penn St team with 6 loses in a row. Its harder to be a champion because teams gun for you, I wouldn't read too much into a Sept game

I think RU is going to have trouble scoring much on IU’s defense which is really good. Their offense is solid and balanced. I think they are the 2nd best B1G team (behind OSU) . Maybe not quite as good as last year but a legit top 10 type team:

IU: 38. RU: 13

This is a good question. I mentioned that Northwestern is having a good season, but it is possible Indiana has taken a step back in the Record Prediction thread. Northwestern beat FCS title contenders South Dakota State 34-18, Colorado 41-7, while losing at Indiana (trailed by 2 with 2:00 remaining), so this doesn't appear to be your typical Northwestern team.

Indiana has allowed 41 points in 4 games including 2 shutouts. RU is playing better and would have started the season no worse than 1-1 if they were playing like this to start the season. RU has scored at least 21 points in every game this season, but is going against the best defense they've played so far.

Indiana 38-24.

We’re not going to win this.

Having said that, the only reason to hold out a glimmer of hope is because it would just be SO “Rutgers” to instantly be dubbed the most polarizing team in college football history. Don’t have to go back and look at the records - there’s no team in history who has allowed a team to break a two season losing streak on their home court and then later went on the road to beat the national champs and break a 20+ game win streak or whatever it is. “So Rutgers” that for this one reason it can’t be ruled out. But we’re not good enough on paper to beat them.

We're not on the road. for IU.

Also it would make for a good answer to a CFB trivia question lol.

Right - sorry. Scratch that part. I’m sure it’d still be history breaking. The Purdue team that beat OSU and the bad Pitt team that beat WVU come to mind as major upsets but those teams didn’t have losses like UMass I don’t think.

Have to take those two shutouts with a grain of salt as they were Howard and Western Kentucky.

We will score 21.

But we cannot stop IU and they score 42

3 TD loss and at 1-4 I think GS is fired as its bye week

While I agree it isn't terribly impressive, Western Kentucky scored a TD in the first half at Georgia the week before and the 20 they scored in Athens is the most points Georgia allowed this season. RU didn't shut out Howard because they made one big play (that WKU could not make at Indiana). While it isn't high;y impressive, it is noteworthy that RU hasn't shut out an opponent since 9/16/2017 against Morgan State and the previous shutout for RU was against Norfolk State on 9/7/2013.

IU will cover the spread. Greggo will fair catch punts in the 4th
The fair catch crap just has to stop. GS 2.0 got snakebit in his 2nd year back- or something like that where we just kept dropping kicks. Ever since- he just gives up. And I wish he would stop and look back at his GS 1.0 teams- so many damn games were won because of great returns on punts and kicks.

It literally turns my stomach every time a team is kicking off to us.

My Prediction:

RU 35
IU 28

(Now KZ won't be able to fire him GS until the end of the season. GS then goes on to pull off only two more wins, but because of the delay another school steps in and hires BK. KZ still has to fire GS at the end of the season and we get stuck with an SEC OC who turns out to be an Ash clone).

Let us pray for the colossal hiring mistake to finally be corrected, but Shelby has no faith that it will.

Reason #75 he’s an incompetent laughingstock. They practice fair catch signals, not returns.

We have potential big play breakers and they're just wasted. Rashad Rochelle doesn't play here anymore.

Schiano ball has turned into feckless, weak resistance driven by fear. He doesn’t believe the kids he recruits can make plays. So he takes those opportunities aways from them.
