Was at this game with goru7. The atmosphere at the Thomas and Mack center was electric. Sat behind the RU bench just marveling at the talent on that UNLV team. Amazing that it lost to Duke in the semi finals, leaving them just short of a perfect season. That team averaged 98 points a game.

But Duncan and Hughes both scored over 30 at Missouri and had chance to tie with about 30 seconds to play but Hughes threw up a three point air ball and we lost by 5. Missouri has been #1 but I think they lost the previous weekend. That was a total shootout. Anthony Peeler played in that game but was academically ineligible for the return trip to the RAC.

I am likely misremembering that.. thanks. I couldn't find a boxscore to check my memory.. I do remember watching the game and thinking Doug Smith was fouling everyone.. was Hughes playing a bit soft putting up a lot of jumpers (and apparently hitting them?).

Most dominant team I ever saw.. they'd pick up D at center court and dare you to do something about it. Just ridiculous. And it wasn't a press.. that was where they'd start playing man.

I attended the game, too. (My first visit to Vegas. I've been back at least 20x since. ) I firmly believe if UNLV won the title in 1991 it would be considered the best team in college basketball history.
