48-37 loss. We scored 4 points in the 4th quarter, 11 points total in the second half? Am I reading that right? There is something seriously wrong. Not much left to be said. On to the next game.

This is the third game where Rutgers has scored less than 40 points.against non conference opponents. To say this is going to be a very long unsatisfying season would be a under statement.

It was painful to watch in person. We get 2 on 1 or 1 on 1 and no one goes to the hoop. They stop and bring the ball out to set up. They they pass the ball around for 20 seconds and force a shot. I have been a season ticket holder for many years and I honestly will think seriously about renewing next year.

Are you saying that it wasn't worth $60.00 for 2 people to watch the game.

Wow ... 11 points in a half ... We may be looking at below 30 (or 20) in a few B1G games.

No it was not entertainment Rizw. It was for 1 half but then the second half was unwatchable. Same old crap on offense. I know these kids are Sophomores and juniors but they show no improvement. When the other team gets close or goes ahead, they fold. They have no offensive plays to get points.

That's why we gave up our 3rd row seats behind the bench. We will again spend the money when there is a coach worth the money.

Anyone that gives any reason (or more accurately, excuses) why CVS should not be gone today. Will regret every day she spends as the RU coach, that she buries the program that much more and makes the enviable next coach's job that much harder.

I truly belief she is totally blinded by an egotistic personality, otherwise if she could see clearly, she would have resigned by now for the sake of the kids, the fans and the future of a program she has grown to truly love.

Can u see any decent recruit, let alone the top 30 talent we regularly signed up, seriously considering signing w RU. That means the spiral down hill continues.

Just some game questions - I looked at the box score -

- It looked to me that we lost due to poor shooting (and would have lost worse if we didn't shoot well from 3 (5 of 12) - and lost by more if they were not dreadful from the 3.
- We also lost due to excessive fouling - 2 players foul out and one almost
- We also lost due to excessive turnovers - they scored 18 points off turnovers to our 7.

Accurate take? Any hope on any of those issues?

Unfortunately, I have only been able to catch 2 or 3 games on TV / Internet and we looked like a different team each time. And not in a good way, even though we won the Seton Hall game I saw on what seemed to me to be great energy. Was there any energy today?

- Even when Arizona reached the "unwatchable" stage last year, we kept our season tix. Of course, I admit they are a lot cheaper than RU. Didn't go to the games, but had the tickets. To me it showed support of the program.
- I have rarely proactively wished for a coach to lose their job. Betsy Yonkman was very eloquent about rooting for coaches to be fired when we expressed joy over Nancy Darsh losing her Liberty gig many years ago. Her point - How would you like someone rooting for you to be fired?
- At this point, I don't think the next coach's job will be made harder whether or not Viv finishes the season - or even comes back. Certainly a mid season change (which just doesn't happen on the women's side) wouldn't produce any better results, and with our scholly's filled for next year . . . That said, the change here at AZ has (at least) resulted in a team that looks like it is playing BB (not sure what they were playing at times under the prior coach) and a team that is at least beating the little sisters (something we did inconsistently under last year's coach). But the team at AZ is the same as last year's team plus one very good (foreign) player - RU is looking at this year's team plus more than one good player next year, so I can at least see why Vivian thinks it could turn around. I'm not hopeful, but I can at least see it.
- At least part of the problem is that those top 30 (or whatever) recruits are already not considering RU.

CVS will probably be gone after this season , unless it turns around.
Those who left because of her might come back or wait until they are sure
RU WBB becomes a constant NCAA team again. That's their choice and I won't knock it.
But will appreciate those who keep on attending games, even though the attendance is not what any RU WBB fan would like.
With that in mind, I doubt Hobbs will force Vivian out and being a competitor will have Stringer trying to win every game for the rest of this season and not quit on the team.
Hopefully things turn around, though unlikely and if they don't C.Vivian Stringer retires at the end of this season and is honored with Coach Emeritus status.
I believe if this season doesn't turn around soon, the quest for 1000 won't have much of a dent put in it this season because ( could be wrong) there are 28 wins to go in order to reach that magic number.

I'll always support Vivian but won't argue Hobbs is wrong if this disastrous season keeps going like it has been and the RU AD feels it's time to change the HC 1000 win quest or not.

I would never criticize a hall of fame coach but the fab 5 debacle put her into a tailspin . I hope she is remembered for her success even though she never won the big one..She and John Cheney both stayed at the dance a bit too long. She brought us attention. Not always good but attention nonetheless. Oh wait a minute. I just criticized a hall of fame coach. My bad.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Add in only 4 FT attempts, all by the same player and all missed.
Hard to believe you can only score 11 points in 20 mins under any circumstances. In the first half we had 20 with 7 mins left and ended up with 26. Only got off 10 shots in the 3rd qtr too.
Too many injuries I know, but this is ridiculous. Nobody to seize the moment.

Why do you believe that CVS will voluntarily step down? Not saying she won't, but I think there is no reason to expect that she will.

I know Hobbs blew it when he resigned her and the fact that she is still embarrassly coaching says to me that she will not be stepping down and that Hobbs is now going to be forced to somehow get her to step down. Those people who keep insisting that it will be better next year are delusional. What does that mean we may win 10 games? That is still bad and will still keep this train wreck of a program headed off the track.

So true. I wish I could believe seeing CVS ever voluntarily stepping down (barring a non-basketball reason). It's not in her DNA.

I really wish she had one more season during her Hall of Fame coaching days. Then she might have had a shot at 1000 wins this year. Is it really worth getting to 1000 wins if it takes at least 2 more seasons and probably more than that, to achieve it.

I will always love CVS. She was part of so many of my favorite memories watching RU.

Yes. We are called Rutgers fans.
RU67 don't talk crap like that! I have been a fan since day one w Theresa Grentz as the first hired full-time woman's BB coach. And a season ticket holder for 20 years until our H of F coach made spending 30 a ticket not quite my cup of tea. It did not make me any less of a fan that bleeds scarlet!.

Didn't say you weren't a fan. Just said that those of us who chose to keep our season tickets and continue to support the team are Rutgers fans. My response was to a seemingly sarcastic comment asking if there were still season ticket holders.
Edited to add: we may both be Rutgers fans even though you choose to lobby for the end of the CVS era and I choose to keep my seats and cheer for and support the student athletes who sacrifice so much.

Come on. Really!!!

You weren't asked if you were or were not a fan. Then what reason did you have to suddenly volunteer that the people who kept their season tickets were fans. Basically as a rebuke to the posts questioning being a season ticket holder anymore.

But I want to hear why you said that?

And what point are you making w your last sentence. The only thing that comes across is that you are qualifying the level of being a fan.

I am a big Rutgers women's basketball fan. So just stop w the qualifying statements you make or explain why you are saying them.

I responded to a post which indicated that there were no season ticket holders any more.

I responded to that because a number of posters continue to simply call for CVS to be let go. I don't agree with that and I think my perspective is as valid as those which follow every loss. Those who oppose her take every opportunity to start or hijack existing threads to repeatedly make their point. I simply choose to make my point by supporting the team and cheering for kids who work hard. Hope that's not a problem.

Another poster implied that there were no season ticket holders. I answered that there were and that we are still Rutgers fans even if we do not agree with those who want the coach replaced. Sorry if you have a problem with my opinion.

Only person who might have a gripe is the poster that 67 replied to and that poster left him/herself open to a sarcastic reply to their sarcastic question.
Let's not get petty here and attack someone's posts that is a direct response to another poster .

LOL. You are like the person that is caught talking nonsense... but instead of admitting it, you just start rambling. Enough already. You are talking cr...p. Now, instead of addressing what was said you are just rambling. It is not worth my time to try to answer you (and actually due to your rambling post, it would be impossible to answer). Your only point this whole line of posts is that you are a CVS fan and you are not happy with any criticism of her.

But I do love the fact that you are a RU fan, just try to keep it in perspective. Go RU!!!

And CVS' complete disregard for others continues. She should be thankful anyone showed up at all to cover her team. Just plain rude to do this.

http://womhoops.blogspot.com/2016/12/guru-sidebar-presser-wait-time-record.html
Unfortunately CVS is in a bad place. Her DNA will always look to blame other things besides her coaching as the reason for any bad games. I honestly only remember 1 time that CVS even hinted to putting any blame on the coaching (never just her coaching) for any loss in all her years at RU.

Again, this is why her coaching career at RU will never end voluntarily (except for non-basketball reasons), Very sad.

On the basketball side: Watched the game with the sound off so as not to be influenced by the announcers. I'm not familiar with this years team, but after watching then, a few observations:

#32 and #40 while big and great rebounders, play O and D like freshmen. Neither can finish around the basket (most of the rest of the team can't either.). Footwork is not good, they don't use their strength to power to the basket after getting the offensive board or the entry pass. Just throw it up towards the hoop. Defensively they don't use their feet. Just arm swipes. Can't stay in front of drivers.

#11 out of control. Panics when defenders come close.

#12 just wants to get to the top of the key (ostensibly to get a play from the coach) == no matter where she started.

Glaring lack of leadership on the court. When team gets frazzled, no one to settle them down and it spirals out of control.

With the lack of shooting, half court offense, excellent defensive rebounding I don't understand why the don't run.

last word by me is:

Merry Christmas / Happy Hanukkah or Happy Holidays if you prefer .
But the way Scarlet Nation members sometimes react to each other :
"Happy Festivus" seems more appropriate. [winking]
