I thought the same thing but in watching the replay both times there were guys underneath the rim.
In fact the announcers said that the Purdue guy was lucky for not getting called for a technical for hanging on the rim. So there's that

I know that sometimes he gets out of the system and does a little too much on his own. But the guy is a warrior and we are going to miss him big time next year.
