We've said it ourselves, and heard pundits say it, but it's also TRUE. Our defense is ridiculous. We're currently 4th in the country in average points allowed per game at 56.9, but even more impressive is how we've held all but one of our opponents well below their season average in points. Here are the points scored by our opponents compared to their current season scoring averages (in parentheses):
Columbia - 35 (65.4)
Sacred Heart - 50 (71.1)
UMass Lowell - 65 (77.7)
Temple - 72 (69.1) - Rutgers' first game without both Caleb McConnell and Paul Mulcahy
Rider - 46 (69.6)
CCSU - 49 (65.3)
Miami - 68 (78.2)
Indiana - 48 (78.9)
OSU p1 - 67*** (78) - really should have been 64
SHU - 45 (69.6)
Wake - 57 (77.4)
Bucknell - 50 (68.7)
Coppin - 57 (73.8)
Purdue - 64 (75.8)
Maryland - 50 (71.5)
Iowa - 76 (82)
Northwestern - 62 (68.9)
OSU p2 - 64 (78)
So Rutgers has held EVERY TEAM (except Temple) WELL below their season scoring averages, and as noted, Temple was the first game that we were without BOTH Paul and Caleb due to injury, and it took us the first half to adjust.
