Yep just said in another thread. Left the reserves in 2 possessions too long. And the ball movement was non existent after that early 2nd half run. Need to shorten the bench when you have an 11 point lead, attack the rim get the other team in foul trouble and not settle for mid range jumpers.

None of it matters if you can’t make a
Layup … would have had Simpson in at the end of the game,
Only one who can make a layup

Layup would have only tied it.
They still came back down the court, went iso on Cam and hit a 3.

I had this as a loss without Mulcahy. But, blowing an 11 point second half lead really hurts. After a nice first half, Hyatt was really bad in the second, especially with the blown layup at crunch time. And if Cam Spencer got even half his season average we win. Instead, he looked like Peter Kiss did against superior competition, Hopeflly, it was just a bad game for Cam and not a harbinger of things to come against tougher P5 competition. 🤞🤞

This game was what I feared. We have no guy to go to in order to get a big bucket. Harper and Geo were those guys. 7 points in the last 11 minutes of play isn’t going to cut it.

Team looked like a deer in the headlights coming down the stretch. I truly believe we win this game with a healthy Paul, but you play the hand your dealt. Team needs to find some confidence and their offensive focus ASAP.

Rutgers held an 11-point lead with 14 minutes to play. Then they missed 16 of their final 19 shots, committed 7 turnovers and allowed Miami to outscore them 28-11 in the final 13 minutes
Exactly. Missed many wide open looks and layups in that stretch, and some head-scratching turnovers. Definition of beating ourselves.

Came back in transition off a rebound. Make a layup and they have to inbound it.

Missed at least 4 gimme layups.

Huh? Even if they inbound it our defense isn't effected. They didn't run up.
Walked up, passed around the top until they isolated Cam. Then went to work.

Unless your saying we press them in a tie game off the make.

No offensive flow the last few minutes due to the lack of a true point guard. McConnell looked much better than against CCSU but he's not a point guard. Cliff got his points but really wasn't a factor and his defense was poor.

Rutgers took 14 more shots than Miami....outrebounded them 41-28...yet lost by seven points.
Hardly ever tried to feed Cliff and when they did their efforts were laughable. This team is offensively challenged. Mag's efforts on offense actually had me laughing at several points in the game.

Yes it will be a different possession for them after a make . The Hyatt miss was the game.

Cam was awful.

They lost because they couldn’t throw the ball in the ocean from the end of the pier the last 11 minutes of the game. Shoot even below average and they win going away

Refs got the win.. did not call the game fairly.. but, still, even counting in the bad refs.. we should have won

We were harassing them with at least token pressure on almost every inbound, with frequent traps. No pressure off a rebound; they bring the ball up while we're getting back into our half court defense.

I'm usually hard on refs, but didn't really have a big problem with them this game. They let a lot go both ways... traveling, fouls, etc. Given how loose their whistle was, there were a few head scratching calls made here and there, but they mostly let them play. Can't really ask for much more than that.

Bad loss. Plenty of blame to go around down the stretch and no one really stepped up. This team's margin for error is very small.

Layups , layups layups , lost count of how many we missed but close to 10 and nothing more untimely than Hyatt ‘s miss that would have tied it at 63-63.

Number of unforced turnovers including 3 that turned into Pick 6’s , 2 by Hyatt and 1 by Caleb changed momentum and allowed them back in the game and keep it tied.
Then Mag for some reason sags off of their only player who had hit a three up until that point and guy hits 2 in a short stretch.
Cam wide open all night goes 1-10 from 3 and picked a bad night to have an off shooting night . If he makes even 1 during their run , we likely win the game.
This would have been an easy comfortable win if we showed or reversed any 1-2 of the above plays. Really a shame.
One last thing , Cliff’s defense was not good enough tonight as his counterpart scored 17. It has happened in the 2 losses to Temple and Miami and his defense has to get better and more engaged earlier rather than be caught standing behind his man.

Turning point was that weird sub pattern that had reiber and wolffork at the 4 and 5 leading to a 10-0 run
I have to go back and check, but I thought Wolf came out after it was cut to 50-45. The 10-0 run started at 56-49.

Sounds right. Unfortunately Woolf had as bad a 1-minute stretch as you could have, and just like that our lead was cut in half. Pike does have a propensity to let leads dwindle with substitutions, versus going for the jugular and trying to extend the lead.

Agreed first thing my daughter and I said at the end of the first half was that missed layup was going to cost us and not only that one but we missed 5 other point blank wide open layups in the second half
How does a 6’7” person miss a layup

Refs? Enlighten me because that would be my last complaint. I thought it was fairly called game.
Are you kidding me? Fouls were not called the same.. offensive or defensive. Travels not called the same. Over teh back rebounds not called (now, that WAS called fairly.. in that it was not called for both teams) . Even who hit the ball out not called fairly.

To put it in perspective... for those who have watched teh USA-England soccer game.. a lot of stuff was allowed without any call from the official... BOTH WAYS. That was fair. That style might favor one team's play style over another.. but it was fair.

The same was true here.. miami's aggressive play was favored by the refs.. BUT.. Rutgers got called for more fouls and far-softer fouls. If they let both teams play I might be complaining that Rutgers did not match the play style that the refs were allowing. But Rutgers was getting whistled for stuff that Miami was NOT.

What happens under these conditions is that our players feel under siege.. and they speed up and play frantically.

Several examples of a Rutgers ball-handlers arm/hand pulled away causing a turnover... or a near turnover.. like Hyatt at teh top of the key.. who, being pulled and slapped at just take a dribble and then puts up fade-away junk around the elbow.

And we STILL should have beat them. But made bad mistakes.

combination of young players not yet ready and role players, who should be coming off the bench, are starting. Bright side Caleb looks so much more confident shooting; seem to recall - maybe around this time last year he was getting criticized for taking any shots; so need to get a very important player back on the court - and have the younger guys continue to progress. And hopefully Cam will settle in.
