I remember when Marcus Smart lied about a racial slur to justify going into the stands. It’s super predictable.
As is people like you justifying any form of racism short of yelling the N word in someone's face.

If I was a black NBA player, and some idiot spent 2 1/2 hours screaming BS at me from 20 feet away, guess what? I'd be very likely to think that he was a white supremacist dipsh** who had an ax to grind with me in large part because of the color of my skin.

That would, in fact, be the most likely explanation for his behavior.

Westbrook actually high fived the kid after politely talking to him.

The fan from last night has had issues before against Westbrook.
"He needs to go back to where he came from MAGA"
"Westbrook needs his *** beat"

Had racial issues on social media, it was not a fake account, he deleted it. Except LinkedIn

Fans received 5 warnings from arena security (Utah) that night for bad and unacceptable behavior toward opposing team (Westbrook's)

Utah fans are known as being the absolute worst in the NBA.

I believe Russell's side of this one.

Maybe it did. Didn't justify physical threats towards the man and his wife

People say things to me that strike a nerve. I don't threaten to f them up. It really isn't that hard to not physically threaten people.

The guy was a jerk. His tweets didn't elicit the response, his statements did.

Last night, Russ was very clear what set him off. The comment about being on his knees. His teammates all verified that was what was said.

Only now are we told it was racial and/or towards his family. Where was that info last night? Oh ya, it was before anyone thought this may be trouble.
pat Patterson was one of the teammates saying it was family...

The point is he (or you, or whoever) shouldn't "have to" hear it. Why some of you just accept it as a fact of life and don't condemn it but have a problem with his reaction is what I take issue with.

If it's no big deal for the fan to say it, and it's just part of the sports experience, then what Westbrook said in return is just heckling back and not serious.

If what the fan said is egregious and serious, then it should have been dealt with and Westbrook was reacting in an equal way.

That's a strawman. Noone said it was ok the fan said it. It isn't acceptable. I mentioned that in at least two of my posts.

But it also isn't acceptable to respond in that manner. Especially to such a weak insult

Yeah because one person lied that means every claim is now a lie .

I guess Westbrook hacked into this guys account and tweeted out Westbrook should go back to where he came from too.

That tweet is fake someone changed their name to his screen name .

However he did tweet out that Russell Westbrook should go back to where he came from in 2018 #Maga

But I’m sure some on this board will say that’s not racial .
the guy sounds like scum...he probably said some nasty things, that crossed the line...Westbrook crossed the line with the "wife thing"
IMO...fan should lose rights to some games (1/2 season at least)
Westbrook, heavy fine, suspended for 2 -3 games, and volunteer at domestic abuse shelter

I agree that Russ shouldn’t have said that about the wife especially when he knows If he attacked a female fan his career would be over .

He’s definitely going to get fined but I doubt they suspend him .

I don't know why some of you act like this is a new thing. Fans have been heckling players in sports since the beginning of time. Do you think the gladiators in the past didn't hear people in the stands say ridiculous stuff about them?

I've heard worse things being said at college football and basketball games. You hear fans in unison chanting a**hole to players and coaches on national TV. You see fans giving the players the finger and cussing directly at them. I personally don't say anything directly to players and they wouldn't hear it from the nosebleed seats if I did.

If what was said was deemed inappropriate by Westbrook, all he had to do was turn around and tell security about it and the guy would have been removed. Instead he blows up and not only threatens the guy, but then threatens the wife as well. That was totally uncalled for.

If I were the owner I would come out and say the fan said something inappropriate to Westbrook, but this organization doesn't condone the response he made to the fan. He should have notified security in this instance instead of interacting with the fans. Because of this behavior he will be suspended for a game or a few games.

I would then have him told in private the next time he makes the organization look bad making inappropriate comments he will receive a much worse punishment. I'm sure there are stipulations in his contract about behavior that can be used against him. He definitely should be made to take some kind of counseling over this.

You’re talking about basketball taunting. Much different than the conversation that is being had about Westbrook. What is being alleged had nothing to do with basketball.

Not really, this fan has been trying to get under Westbrooks skin for some time, not sure why, or what the fans problem is. Westbrook was in uniform sitting on the bench, most likely not happy as his team was not going to win, and he let this jerk get to him. Now the spectacle of him telling the fan his is going to Blank up him and his wife too is all over the new. More jerks will take this as fuel. This is basketball taunting. Fans taunt athletes all the time, you have to be mentally tough enough to tune it out.

Pat Patterson is backing Westbrook on what was said...Is he lying?

Who isn't going to support their teammate? Especially when they are the franchise player and you being an expendable asset. If you want to keep your job you will say the right thing in support of him. In the video clip though, Patterson looks like he is getting annoyed with Westbrook's behavior. Most every player looked like they were trying to ignore what was going on because it is likely a reoccurring issue with him. If it were such a big deal I'm sure others would have come to his defense instead of ignoring the situation.

When will the people on the floor (owners, players) learn to let security handle issues and stop interacting with fans? Should be a lot of fallout over this one.

Suspension coming. Fan should be thrown out, too.

Wrong. OKC won the game.

Which might be exactly why the dambass fan felt the need to take things to another level.

Westbrook checked out with 43 seconds left in the game. This was white supremacist, "I'm gonna show Russ" 's last chance to make his statement. It's going to be at least 8 more months before he has a chance to be that close to Westbrook and make an impression.

There’s about a thousand examples of bogus accusations of racial slurs. Also, “go back to where you came from” isn’t a slur nor relevant to a public interaction. You think a fan is in public at a NBA game yelling racial slurs? Or is this a “perceived” racism?

Everyone knows the “but he said something racist” to excuse the actions of black people. It’s a regular attempt to excuse actions and hide behind a shield. It’s why it’s always the go to move.

There’s a thousand of these types of claims with the “oh yeah, he did that.” It’s tribalism.

Heckling is one thing "Hey Russell, you can't hit the broad side of a barn." "Hey Russell, you are a gun."

Making racial toned comments coming from a obvious known racist is over the line. Players i agree should deal with normal heckling, it comes with the territory. But when you start the racial BS and homophobic comments to players, they should not have to tolerate that at their job or anywhere else.. Just because he is a really great player and multi-millionaire, does not mean fans just because they bought a ticket, have a free rein to attack a player with degrading words. The security of the arena issued 5 warnings that night for lewd behavior toward OKC players. It was not just Westbrook and Patterson saying it.

Do I think it’s possible a fan that tweeted out go back to where you came from #maga possibly made a racial slur yes .

Do I believe it’s possible Utah fans yell out racial slurs. Yes

You can support without lying...
So, you either believe him or you believe he is lying...and it seems like your saying Patterson is lying because you think he looked annoyed.

He could have been supportive with..."I know Russelll and I don't think he just wouldn't fly off like that, unless that guy provoked it"...that is support. This isn't rocket science

You’re more likely to hear racial slurs by players on nearly every play than you are to hear it in the stands.

I'll say it since no one else will.. KingofBBN is racist. Just seemed way too eager to intertwine Jussie Smollett into this situation. Just because a black guy in Chicago made something up for attention doesn't mean Russell Westbrook made up a story about a fan. Glad it gave you the opportunity to vomit your Fox News opinions all over the this thread though.. seems like you had 'em loaded up and ready to go.

Is Patterson some special being because he played for Kentucky; making him incapable of lying and backing a teammate?
No.
But, unlike you... I am not going to blanket assume he is lying. I would give HIM the benefit of the doubt and not assume he is lying.
I can make an assumption from your responses that you think that is an okay situation to lie. which is okay, I'm not judging.

I have been debating with him. and trying to show it is ignorant to make assumptions or blanket statements.

Now, you've down the exact same thing with the "fox news" reference... seems like you had that loaded and ready to go.

see how that works, and is not positive at all?

So predictable.

Yeah, your politics certainly aren’t on display here.

I could name an absurd amount of examples of athletes, celebs, and citizens playing the race card, pushing hoaxes/lies and making excuses. Look up the NFL’s Michael Bennett last year. Look up Marcus Smart’s claim. Look up the constant race hoaxes over the years. People lie about this because it’s an easy thing to do in order to play the victim and deflect blame.

And by all means, please tell us what you base your trust in Westbrook on other than your pure bias and gullibility? Is the fan a douche? Yep. Is Westbrook a douche? Yep. Could he be lying? Absolutely. Do many people play the race card without fail? No question.

And you calling me racist is so pathetic. You’re a brainwashed fool.

Very fair assessment. I read through this five or six times before I decided to call him out. I shouldn't have attempted to pinpoint where his racism stems from with a generalization, my bad there. That being said, my first point stands. Guy's a racist.

Brainwashed by what? When I read the Smollett story I immediately thought something didn't add up. I didn't immediately jump to his defense or assume he was telling the truth.

It's called thinking for yourself and not letting race or anything of the like play into your line of thinking. Every situation is unique. Are you really trying to say you're not taking sides here? I read every post you made five or six times to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting but you keep hammering home all this racist dog whistle bs while ignoring the fact that this particular fan has a history of racist behavior which would lend itself to this story being true. If you don't like black people then fine, you're your own person but don't try to deflect and hide behind semantics and strawmen like so many other cowards.

what has he done in the past to assume he is a liar? There was nothing but the highest praise for his character while at UK. When I was at school at UK, I knew a few of the athletes and can call their character into issue on certain subjects. If you have some news, spill it.
