As much as I hate Pitino, I gotta disagree with you here about Smith. He was a 3 star guard who couldnt get offers from any major school except for Louisville. I think his other best offer was Rutgers and St. Johns. He couldn't get an offer from any other big northeast school like UConn and Syracuse. So, to say he was under developed is a bit inaccurate if you ask me. Quite the opposite actually as he turned out to be one of the best players in the country that year. My hate for Pitino runs as deep as anyone's but I gotta call it like I see it too. Pitino did a good job with Smith.

Did Rick recommend the rat or the maple syrup? :)

Russ was just a three star. Gorgi was from Senegal. And another kid transferred from a nothing school. Rick made them! They wouldn’t do those things.

The letter read to me like he used several words that he was unsure of their meaning.

“Taking part in something they chose not to be a part of”.

What? How can you take part in something and at the same time choose not to be a part of it? The 2 things are mutually exclusive.

Oh well that changes everything. Now that the record has been set straight by Russ Smith look for the NCAA to change their position and reinstate everything as it was.

Thank you Russ Smith for your service to the Dirty Bird Nation. You got justice so now they can have peace

Terrence Williams aka TWill is the one with the 3 fingers fetish.

I have some empathy for Russ. Lot of poor taste invective in this thread.

Certainly he's responsible for whatever he did, but kicking someone when they're down is poor form, and invites judgment.

Poor Russ. Nothing happened but Coach would have gone nuts if he found out. We was just kids and nothing happened but it was all the grownups faults.

There should be a core requirement for college kids titled ' This is where you shut up '.

How do these people believe that McGee single handedly set up parties for the team, and hookers for recruits on official visits - having sex with prostitutes on campus during their tour of the campus - including after he was employed 500 miles away? And paid thousands of dollars out of his own pocket on a graduate assistant salary, continuing to pay out of his own pocket after he was no longer even connected to the team?

Hell, a friend of mine - intelligent guy, usually - posted the Eric Crawford article about how this isn't an institutional issue and nobody ever found any evidence that anybody but McGee was involved or condoned it or paid for it. Really? Do they believe that? At the same time that the program was paying recruits, we are supposed to buy that there wasn't an institutional issue? Sounds like there were MULTIPLE institutional issues, including a complete lack of institutional control.

The NCAA didn't buy it either.
Hookers
Assistant coach
On campus
Four years

Money.
CYA final fours and Natty.
Didn't have to happen. I doubt any Louisville basketball player had to be lonely.

Campus facility with security and supposedly cameras. Documents supposed to be filed. Coaches making comments in practice about guys being too worn out because of strippers. Coaches equal University. Unauthorized folks allowed in facilities overnight.
Yep. Institutional.

Seeing the continued defiant attitude of their fans, I'm starting to come around to the "NCAA needs to burn it all to the ground and give them the death penalty to get the message through" argument. Only reason I don't want to see it is that I don't want the Yum Center going bankrupt and falling on me as a local taxpayer to take care of, and local businesses getting hurt from lack of events. Maybe they can just give them a 3 year tournament ban and severe scholarship losses. Cripple them for years but not ban them outright.

I'm kinda an old fart. Me and several others screamed for YEARS that UK was set up in the Sutton fiasco. Didn't matter. After all came out we realized that there truly was some bad stuff going on ...but it took time to grow up and move on.

Cards fans that haven't already get to start that growing up and moving now.

Or later. Up to them.

Russ says neither he nor his Bros had anything to do with Katina and says the punishment needs to be directed at the adults, Andre McGee and Katina Powell.

http://www.courier-journal.com/stor...-followers-ncaa-infractions-ruling/406182001/
That doesn't even make sense. If they had nothing to do with it then punish the adults for what? If the allegation is false then they shouldn't punish them at all, or am I missing something?

Besides it's quite clear that you did have something to do with it. That's already been proven Russ.

In addition I'd like to know exactly how Russ thinks the NCAA should sanction Katina or Andre. Last I hear McGee was driving for Uber. And Katina,... well never mind. Point is they can't do anything at all to them. The NCAA can only punish the University that cheated.
