We lost to a team that played their best game of the year.

A loss on this board is comical, either we have a lot of young guys or they are lacking in some areas.
I remember the days of Tubby, I remember the days of Gillispie (not trying to compare the two as Tubby was 10 times better) when we lost to teams we felt we should have beaten easily.
This team will get better as they go, more experience will help this team in 2018. I would think that
we could all see we have the talent. We don't have an experienced couple of players to get us over the hump.

We will be fine and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Not going to go into panic mode either. This team has a long ways to go to be competitive with the bigger teams this year. Whether we get there or not remains to be seen but I'm not going to join in on trashing the team like some others have come out to do on this board (again, posters you rarely see until we lose a game). This team may not win a championship this year, that's the truth of the matter, but I see this season more as a building block for next year anyway and what could be a pretty outstanding team if Cal can get who he is after to join with returners. I'm just going to try to enjoy the development of this year's team and hope they can get it together to make a nice run in March. Merry Christmas to you too, CBBCrazy, and to all others out there.

Every time we lose many folks wanna jump ship n start blaming Cal for recruiting one n dones. Folks this is just the way College Basketball is today.
I’m glad that he does go after top level talent every year, if he didn’t these same folks would piss n moan that we aren’t keeping up with the other schools that do recruit them!
I figure there will be several guys returning next year and then we should all see an experienced squad along with the next batch of 5-stars. We will be fine!

I totally agree that everything is building toward next season. I’m not saying this team can’t make the Final Four this season, but next year, (as long as we get Zion) could be very special.

Pretty true and sometimes I've piled on as much as anyone, but this year , different than past years I just don't think we are super talented . So I've tempered my expectations , we are going to get beat several times in SEC play . Some of our guys , 5 star one and dones , are SLIGHTLY over rated . Solid players but not lottery picks . And they haven't meshed that well through 10 games . But learning on the fly this year against better SEC comp isn't going to equal past 2-3 years when the league was easier . Add that to Cal's refusal to bend much and it isn't going to be pretty . We win that game yesterday if he stays zone on several more possessions . Doesn't have to zone up the whole damn game , just mix it in , then out , then in then out . UCLA shot selection was awful when we zoned . Ball movement died , less penetration , it was working .

Yes Duke lost on another team's home court and it was close plus they did not look awful in doing so. It's not comparable.

What I find interesting with many posts here isn't about the loss but comments about effort or trying to say UCLA just was super. No, not even close. We have given every team we have faced wide open 3's and no interior defense. Green took off his glasses thinking that was impacting his shooting, so I would say there was effort. PJ is just not really that good and Richards is a project (losing on Bamba and especially Young is part of the problem along with no Vanderbilt at present). You have to have the horses.

It is just one game and I expect we will beat UL at home and then all those who jumped off the bandwagon will be back. But, there are some huge issues with the make up of this team.

My other issue which may relate to the OP is all this fawning about how great our prior players do in the Pro's. I am happy for them, proud they played at UK, but it would be nice if they were championship teams at Kentucky not superstars years later in the pros. i would rather celebrate Kentucky wins and Natl Championships than posts how Towns is way better than Okafor. Seems to my recollection, Okafor has the ring.

This is just several paragraphs of jibberish. They still lost, to a mediocre/ not good team.
Same as us, same as Zona , same as UNC

Stop Cherry picking. I swear it’s like some fans thrive on being miserable.

Cal needs to hire someone to teach these kids how to defend a pick and roll and just a pick where the dribbler picks up and shoots a wide open three. Apparently he has no clue or the kids are too dumb to understand what he is telling them. Never seen so many wide open looks as I did yesterday. This has happened with just about every team since he has been here.

Why is it some posters feel like every loss we have came against a team that played their best game of the year. Perhaps they played their best game of the year due to our horrible man to man defense that some insist is the only way to be succesful. I bet you we were about plus 15-20 points while playing zone and minus 20-25 points playing man to man.

I think our zone would be much better, if they would be taught to keep their hands up. They stand in the zone with their hands down. This affects balance and the ability to quickly occupy open space. My 2 cents ....

Agree, you and me are at the same place. I will still discuss our games and criticize players and coaches, but I predicted 7-10 losses this year, and this was #2, so no worries.

I have no idea how this season will go. We could lose 7-8 more times. Then click late in season and go on a final 4 run. We have all saw this happen in the past.
I do think this team will take it's fair share of lumps on the road. We could be anywhere from a 2-8 seed come tournament time.
I knew going in that we would lose more games than usual under Cal.
No team is going to more or less start from complete scratch will all Freshman. Sans what little minutes we got from SKJ, Gabriel and Wynyard last year and not take fair share of loses.
I am gonna enjoy the ride as I always do and let chips fall where they may.
Merry CHRISTmas fellow Big Blue Fans!

I check this board several times a day every single day but NEVER after a loss.. I wait until the next day to try avoid the whole first page being filled with posts about how the sky is falling... It sucks to loss but loses happen even when they shouldn't.. This team is younger than 2014 and we know how that season went.... I think we'll be ok

I have a habit of watching teams we have coming up on our schedule. I have watched UCLA about 3-4 times this year, trust me this is the best they have played period. I have watched them play some very weak teams with defense worse than ours but they didn't hit everything like they did against us.

I was away during the game yesterday and I have not read many posts since because I know what it will be. Unfortunately, a segment of the fanbase is going to ruin it for the rest of us as this season progresses. This class was not as good as we all hoped it would be, and we have basically no returning experience. There was really no hope for a title run. Best bet is if a number of them return and we get Zion to go with the others. If that happens, next season has a lot more promise.

They just played Cincinnati two games ago and hit 11/29 from 3 and lost by 14. They hit 12/30 against us, pretty darn comparable.

I don't really see any poster in panic mode or openly griping without just cause over the loss to UCLA. Yes, youth and inexperience are the heels of this team at the moment, but as many posters have pointed out, it's the primary heel of nearly every Kentucky team since the arrival of Calipari. With that said, Calipari has taken UK to multiple Final Fours and a national championship, so while his method certainly works, I understand when posters get despondent when we lose to a clearly less talented team with zero bench production. Regardless of youth or inexperience, losing to UCLA should have never happened given that they have no bench. You do not necessarily need senior leadership in order to box out on the boards or play defense.

I agree that fans on here over react. But I also agree that the "we are young" gets old. To have our guards not be able to stay in front of their guards was frustrating. We should be much better there.
