Anyone else have people saying they heard from someone in the military or so-and-so was told that on Monday, Trump is deploying the national guard and everyone will be on house arrest for two weeks? All businesses will be shut down. I don’t believe this one bit. But, it’s interesting nonetheless. I had several students text me saying their parents was told by someone in the military. My sister, who lives over a thousand miles away, and if ex-military, told me the same thing. Disclaimer: she is an idiot.

The military is widely known for releasing it's plans far and wide well before an operation.

Considering administration officials have flat-out denied this, I would say it's probably nonsense. There may be some contingency planning in place, and if things don't get better in the next couple of weeks, anything is possible. But I doubt this is imminent.

Touche.. Must be why they didn't tell us until we were landing in Baghdad we were deploying to Iraq, not going to Hawaii for a little R&R..

"The Military" would be the last to know.

I suspect just about every state has its national guard on alert and probably have given them instructions to get ready to mobilize. We may see some limited areas (like possibly new orleans) getting policed by national guard and maybe even enforcing "lock downs" that shut down social events. But we won't have them operating on a nationwide level.

Talk about 17'n hording?

I left stuff in the store, for others, thinking that I could come back when needed.

Just how in the 17 is anyone to, get the food and stuff that they need, (for two weeks +)

How about a little notice if they don't mind. People will not go with this, without notice.

I personally could handle it, but this would be a slippery slope.

The state dept just alerted all citizens abroad to return to the us immediately if they want to return anytime soon (Level 4 travel advisory).

Something is coming. I doubt they try to "house arrest" everyone because that sounds highly illegal but I wouldn't be shocked if they ordered closed anything non-essential that they legally can.

Cali has instituted it and I just heard from a friend that a doctor told him Monday was a statewide lockdown.

It's not necessarily a lockdown. Essential businesses are still operating. You're free to move about, but you just can't congregate in a crowd.

Yeah lockdown means ONLY the essential businesses open including grocery will be open. They will ask you only to go to those places and if you want to get out and exercise or ride around in car to the parking lot at the beach

There are a few hundred Americans stuck in Honduras who can't get out. They've been trying since Monday.

My friend's parents are among them. Her latest update:
Wendi McNeill Update: March 19th: My folks are still stranded along with 300-500 US Citizens with none to little help from the US Embassy.

On the plus side for our Canadian friends, a plane will be coming to pick up the Canadians stranded in Honduras (so I am told
) this weekend.

My dad went looking today at the only pharmacy open on the Island (they are on lockdown) for the most important meds and have they have nothing, not even "off brands"

I feel so helpless at this time. I have reached out to many senators some in our state and others. I’ve reached out to the media with no response. I am starting with my local media now, will see if anything comes of it.

I know other stranded Americans on the Island are doing the same. I replied to a tweet today from a San Diego news anchor who had covered a story on this for another couple.

If you have a Twitter account and want to share or tweet please feel free to do so, the more people that see maybe we can get them home sooner. Thank you and you all stay safe.

I will say my mom has a friend who is in the guard and the scuttlebutt amongst his unit is something is coming. They're thinking lockdown.

That's just the number of people in Roatan. There are hundreds more stuck on Honduras mainland including the US Women's football team. Honduras gave about 6 hours warning before closing the borders and all flights after midnight were canceled.

Another person I know is a transplant recipient who was in Honduras, he's now stuck and has about a weeks worth of his meds left. The US govt has been of no help to him. Side note: US doesn't even have an ambassador to Honduras.

Military air traffic has been active for about 5 days here, which is unusual with mostly UPS and civilian flights during non-pandemic times. I grew up on the Coast, so very familiar with military jets (Air Force brat) and its mostly C130s (cargo/personnel carriers) or F16s. With California locking down and they are usually on the leading edge of everything that tends to happen in this country, a lock-down of some sort will most likely be applied soon.

Really not good. Unfortunately this will be a bad outcome.

Hell, you can barely get the national guard to show up to drill right now, much less be part of some lockdown for the entire country. Stupid as hell.

New York ordered locked down now. Trump may not have authority to shut down states but he's got sway over the governors to get it done.

Still think "quarantine" will escalate over the next 48 hours.

A quarantine for dense population centers with hotspots of COVID spread makes more sense to me than locking down the entire country. Think NOLA would have to be a candidate for that right now.

The federal government isn't locking down the country. MS has no plans to do so either. That came straight from FEMA and MEMA.

My understanding is that the national guard may be part of planning for transport of critical patients at the local level in case we have catastrophic outbreak clusters that overwhelm area hospitals. If an area outbreak takes all the available beds and there are still multiple critical patients needing care, the guard could potentially be used to help move those patients to other state/regional hospitals that are not near capacity. They could also be used to streamline equipment to hospitals running out of supplies.

Hopefully it will not come to this, and this is just contingency planning/talk for worse case scenarios.
