Friend of a friend thing here, take it for what it's worth.

Guy I work with plays games with a few former UK football players. This part is legit, as I have played with them some too. They are still in touch with program.

Said they were talking last night that the athletic department is talking about Cal to the Lakers. Say contact has been made and there is more interest than what is being reported. Their guess was AD is trying to get LeBron behind bringing him there.

According to whomever they talked to in the athletic department, they think Cal is leaving. Said the feeling the athletic department has is that Cal is ready to leave and will look at other jobs if not LA.

I asked him about replacements and he said they had no idea.

Again, random rumor, take it for what it's worth

That would be the dumbest move the Lakers would make in the history if the franchise.
good grief... hate filled with hate... they have, done much worse.
You want Cal gone, but it would be stupid for "x team" to take him. Do you see the problem?

I don't see why an NBA team like the Lakers would have any interest in Cal. And that's why I don't believe it.
The ONLY reason is because of Cal’s connection to so many former star players, that he could potentially help bring in with AD and James.

I for one believe the “rumor”, because Cal has to know without OT and SS, next season is shaping up to be very subpar. Something will start to leak out soon from more reliable sources.

The OP’s friend is definitely on to something with this.

Lebron is stumping for Mark Jackson. Juwan Howard and Quinn Snyder are two contenders as well. I don’t think Cal is on their list
Possibly Quinn backed out and staying with Jazz…didn’t like how they handled the Vogel firing.

Nick Nurse is at the top of the list as well.

I appreciate you sharing some potentially meaningful information, so thank you for that. I just don't understand why people act like children, unless that's what they are? It's not like the very subject hasn't already been discussed here, so your information may shed additional light. Time will tell.

It's a logic fail of epic proportions. I typed up this big long thing from my soap box, but I realize you haven't said any of the stuff below. Just building off what you said.

Fans are tired of Cal in large part because he's running the same offense from 12 years ago. That won't work in the NBA.

"But in the NBA the coaches don't actually do anything, the players do all the offense."

I think this is false. I also think that if the Lakers believed it--there's really no sense in firing Vogel. Cuz anyone can let the players do what they want.

"The Lakers are really talented, they just need a motivator." LeBron is chasing Jordan. He's chasing
records. But people want me to believe he's lost the motivation to win.

Davis quite literally cannot stay healthy. But when Cal gets there and motivates him, it will all changes.

All of this talk about Cal can motivate them. But...weren't we just blasting Calipari for not having our guys ready for St. Peter's? He couldn't get Grady and Tyty ready for a 15 seed with the season on the line, but he's going to guide guys making 10's of millions through an 82 game grind?

I don't buy any of it. I'm not someone who is worried about moving on from Cal. If he takes the Lakers job, I'll be excited for fresh blood. But I just cannot convince myself the Lakers see this guy as the fix.

He is. Both CBS and ESCNN have said as much. Now granted, they were both top 10 or 15 list, but he was on them.

This makes me laugh. Jackson is a decent coach but he coached the Warriors before they took off because he allegedly didn't like to do too many practices. Once Steve Kerr got that job, the Warriors went into the stratosphere.

NBA coaches also use ALL of their timeouts in close games down the stretch to set up plays…big red flag for owners do a coaching search and Cals a candidate hah

That’s pretty much where I am with this. With the pressure he’s under from fans and now allegedly the AD, I wouldn’t be completely shocked if Cal decided to try moving on, but I have a hard time believing that any NBA teams have him near the top of their lists these days. He’s 63 years old, over 20 years removed from his last stint in the league (which wasn’t very successful at that), and frequently criticized by scouts in recent years due to his college teams relying on outdated sets. I’m just not sure I see the appeal, especially for a premier franchise like the Lakers.

Agree. If the Lakers DID hire Cal (which I don't believe they have any interest in doing so), you would hear a resounding and collective "WTF!" from Lakers fans. They wouldn't want him.
