RU QB Situation Thoughts

The constant drumbeat of whining in tiresome IMO. It has been stated ad nauseum why recruits are not signing right now. Yet a couple of posters keep pounding the drum. Some people love dwelling on the negative.

Keep in mind last year:
Naijee Jones was committed before Ash got here.
Ash got Melton, Clark and Beatty by the the third week of April, and Wormley and Lewis were on board by the end of April. That is 5 Ash commits by the end of April, or 20% of the 25 member class.

Also, we had 12 QBs offer last year (if TOS is accurate).

It's May 8, and we have 2 recruits of a class that will be about 15 recruits -that's 13% of the recruiting class. We are not that far behind last year. People need to relax a bit.

I agree the sky is not falling. It is obvious we're behind from last year though. Not because of the lack of commits but because of the interest overall. Many top NJ recruits aren't even considering us unlike last year. We need a good year on the field that's really it.

I hate the constant drumbeat of negativity from some posters too but just as annoying are the people who have unrealistic expectations (RutgersAL)or spinning things to make it seem like we haven't swung and missed so far. My favorite are the "we backed off" sore losers when we lose out on a recruit when all the facts state otherwise.

We agree. But throwing in a bunch of sunshine posts to counter the Debbie Downers never hurts. Some people want to make a big deal about losing the RU legacy to BC. His high school coach went to BC, and the kid was really keen on academics--I love RU and think our academics are fine, but if given the opportunity, and my kid could go to BC for free or RU for free, I would probably choose BC. Negatoids will spin this in to Ash "fumbling" the situation, but IMO, we were in a Sisyphean situation with this kid. Best of luck to him.

Yea I agree some kids just don't like RU and see themselves as a better fit somewhere else. Nothing wrong with that. And I can't blame Ash since that's been the culture in NJ for so long. Last years class was amazing with what he was working with and think he'll turn it around eventually. We just gotta see better on field results. Not necessarily a bowl and at least 6 wins but some fight against all teams. I know Flood left him with no depth so it'll be a bit. We need patience

I dont consider you on the same boat as BlockR who simply has an agenda of getting Ash and all the "mid western" coaches out of RU. So, I think you're reasonable enough to warrant a response.

The QB priority has always been Sitkowski. He is the first, second, third down to the seventh option. As long as there is still a flicker of hope on that front, we are not going to give up chasing that first and primary option. Now does that mean we don't have a back up? Of course not. But there will be transparency with the "back ups" so that they are aware that there could be 2 QBs. Notice the back ups they are going after could transition to say, WR? Or in the case of Langan was really being recruited as a DE. If you're a recruit with options, would you be ok with a set up like that? It's understandable if they look somewhere else. Some guys like Leary, the staff was never really high on - so, it's more complicated than just simply saying we are swinging and missing.
Do you think there is a glimmer of hope with Sitkowski? What would turn that glimmer into a reality? A kick-*** season on the field?

you need to go back to month of March for the unfolding of events in Stewart saga..kid should have been on the commit list from then..and it wasnt about academics, dont know who is putting that 'spin' out there.

The recruit himself.
"And their education is obviously top notch," Stewart, the 6-1, 206-pound rising senior told NJ.com.

Not quite sure what your angle is, but you seem hell bent on throwing Ash under the bus at every turn, and not giving him an iota of credit for doing anything good.

"Stewart saga"? Sounds like you're just dramatic. No saga. He didn't want to come here. Big whoop

The 'unfolding events' as told on the paid board were that RU had backed off. I have no idea if that is correct, or if something else happened, but that is what what said on the RT. So, I still have no idea what you are talking about with regards to Stewart and Ash & Co.

Different board had a different take?

On another free board, there were some folks who seemed close to the kid's family, and even these posters said academics was key to the kid. Could that be spin? Sure. Just like the terrible tales about how Ash purportedly "fumbled" this one. Don't really care. It's over and done. Move on.

look, lets leave it at this,in March he should have been an RU committ. Not landing an RU legacy kid, when the chance was available and then letting this drag out till May,gets you these results.Im not going to put additional info about it ,but other people know the full events.Lets see now if RU lands Brennan.

So now "we're offering every qb out there"? How many QBs is every QB out there? Hyperbole much?
There are several posters here, some who are probably not even RU fans, who seem to spin every tidbit of information into a narrative that "we are doomed" and "worst possible scenario."

As noted above, the reality of the situation is we are coming off a horrific year on the field. There is no spinning that. My nature is to not cry over spilled milk and wring my hands over recruiting results in May. We all know decommits will happen. If BC craps the bed on the field, they will have decommits. If RU can show improvement on the field, we may be able to flip some recruits we missed on.

Let me say it again--RU's recruiting success this year is going to be directly tied to showing improvement on the field. We should not be expecting much in the way of commits before the season starts.

Can you please repeat that a few more times? Some people aren't getting it.

Why? I could understand it if your kid were from a Catholic school background, and wanted the comfort level of going to another Catholic institution, but not otherwise.
