well damn, we can score. Still gotta work a little on defensive rotations and making mcconnell and montez serviceable. At this point, I know it’s only two games but im not expecting more than 6-8 minutes out of caleb and montez this year. They just lack confidence and arent there mentally. The way i see it we have a 7 man big ten quality rotation with the starters plus harper and johnson. Would love to get one more guy in that.

Agree McConnell probably won't see a ton of time, but I think Mathis will, given his athleticism and ability to play defense. His 2 treys should help his confidence, too.

Disagree. Mathis has confidence, maybe too much confidence at this point. He is a scorer with a scorers mentality and has put up a fair amount of shots in these two games. Pressing a bit sure, but we need him as he (next to Omoruyi) is the best athlete on the team and is capable of playing some real good D. Good to see him making a couple treys at the end.

McConnell played well today in limited minutes. A couple steals, couple rebounds and didn't turn the ball over. That's all you can ask for your freshman backup PG.

Montez will play 10-15 easily . Coach is working him in and allowing him to play through mistakes . What you see now won’t be what he will be later in year . The more he plays the more he’ll adjust . If there’s one thing we know , we know Pike can develop

Agreed. Montez will get his minutes.

He was getting blown by on defense. Montez has a ton to work on right now. Might take a year or two

Also with eugene nailing 3’s and looking good doing it that really opens up lanes and stretches out defenses. Love it

I think we go 8 deep but we will need the other 3 with bigger teams than FDU and Drexel. 6 players have hit 3s in 2 straight games (12 and 14) in the flow of the game. We shot over 50% from the field and 3 pt range in both games. We had 2 games of 22 assists and 19 assists, last year RU had 2 games of 18 assists Iowa and FDU and 17 vs CCNY. Yes turnovers and FT shooting is a little concerning but we are still winning easily. It's Knight and Day the difference in talent, shot selection, basketball IQ and chemistry that this team has, we will find out more on Friday night.

After the game on WCTC, EO said he took 500 three every day all summer long to improve his shot

Montez is gonna be fine. You can see the athleticism and stroke. Problem is, we are gonna have to let him get used to the jitters by playing a decent amount. I think St Johns will be tough for him, but by mid-B1G schedule I expect he will be a big time rotation guy. McConnell is gonna be a work in progress. I actually was impressed with his composure with the ball in his hands today. Defense is clearly not there yet, though. Either way, until Mulcahy gets here, we gotta spell Geo somehow.

KYK I bust you because I was in school when John Battle was there. Scored 2 points a game as frosh and in the NBA three years later. Can't tell with just one year. How hard does a kid work. Big Ten Network had 10 ten RU players and Battle was like number 7.

I hear ya man haha. I love Eugene, I wish we had 4 of him and 4 of Geo. Thats a national championship team.

Montez has some great raw tools. What confuses me is he was always known as a slasher but early on hes looked awful slashing and driving and with his passes but has shown a decent stroke from deep. So we’ll see. You can see hes dripping with physical talent but needs to be mentally stronger and smarter

Kyk has owned up to the EO thing a thousand times already. Do we really have to keep bringing it up forever? Let's move on to the Ron Harper should redshirt crew

Since he is making similar proclamations about true freshman after two games i think we keep piling it on.

I’ll Leave it to coach to figure out how best to use and develop Montez. More curious to see what role MD and SC have in the rotation going forward.

The most 3 made since 2006 15/32 against Syracuse OT loss Douby went for 41 on 9/17 from 3, Inman had 3/6, Webb 2/6 and Farmer 1/2 Jaron Griffin 0/1, I think this year's team is better than that one.

They should invite Douby Shields Coleman back for a game as a return of the 3 promotion lol. As a former 3 point sniper myself it's been painful to watch how bad we have shot for years now. I am so freaking excited for the rest of this season

Did anyone listen to the post game and Eugene stating he practices shooting 3 pointers buy shooting over 300 a day. If he keeps this up , heck half of what he is hitting now it will huge for the team and opening up the middle.

In my humble opinion best thing about these 2 games is in 2nd half we clamped down on defense Which tells me adjustments being made in locker room and kids are making adjustments. Pike did say we are not where he wants us to be re defense

you are judging Montez after two games..he will play more than you predict and contribute more than you think

Certainly, when he continues to make broad statements about players after two games.

Nope, not makig similar statements. In fact if you actually took the time to read my posts, i said I dont see him being a major contributor this year but that i trust pike to develop his raw skills and he’ll be a good player. Not everyones an impact frosh

You're driving into college players and not high school players - big difference, but he'll adjust in time. Right now he is out of control. He needs to let the game come to him. Caleb to me is a different story. I don't think he can be a Big 10 PG, and where does he play when Mulcahy gets here and the Texas kid becomes eligible? Harper is going to be a stud, and Johnson has tremendous upside. Limit penetration on the defensive end and be more careful with the ball on the offensive end and we'll be fine. That said, I've followed RU basketball since the year before they went to the final four. This is the best passing and shooting team that I can remember, and I'm not sure its even close.

Caleb will likely be much improved next season but see less minutes. We ONLY lose Doorson this year and add Mulcahey Young and another player. The competition for minutes next season is going to be insane at the guard and wing spots. Geo Mulcahey Young Kiss Mathis McConnell... Thiam and Harper too who could get some minutes at the 4. It will be very interesting to see how that all shakes out
