A coaching staff with three guards (Pikiell, Hobbs, Knight) can't recruit/develop a PG or design an offense.

I honestly don’t think we’ll ever have what is considered an actual point guard

Im not asking thing special. Just a nice James Beatty type juco would be useful. We have a bunch of comb guards - who can't get themselves or their teammates shots

I think having Young play point is failing miserably. He needs to be off the ball. Too stagnant with him running the offense.

He’s definitely not a point guard. He’s a backup 2 guard, or maybe a second division A10 starter.

Was going to post this after the game last night. But just went to bed instead. Thank you!

Our 4 "leading" ball-handlers or PG's are:

1. Closest thing to a PG we have but not dynamic enough to elevate the 5 on the floor.
2. A SG
3. Someone who ONLY facilitates for himself and doesn't do that well.
4. A 6'6" slower guy who was overwhelmed by the competition last night and refuses to facilitate for himself, AT ALL.

8 games in, and we haven't shown any real evidence of valuing the basketball. Forget about an "offense" for now. We need to improve on not being basketball's version of Daniel Jones.

As to point 4,we had a glaring liability last night.Mulcahy will be valuable, but was horrid last night. He is not an offensive threat. There was no ability score, drive and dish,or even attempt to shoot the ball.Defensively it was embarrassing. He turned the ball over.
Pike should be very judicious with his minutes right now.

Fans are now panicking for some reason.

Every player we are counting on this year, got tossed into the deep end of the pool last year and Baker was 2 years ago. We watched them struggle and there were bad games mixed with a couple of good ones.

Now less than a year later, it's "reduced minutes for this one etc".

The board looks exactly like last year at the same time. The Young and Mulcahy play has to improve but that can't happen by watching after every turnover or brick.

Pitt played this game with 7 guys, which says in the short term/quick fix/desperation. Or lack of trust. In the long run, you play freshman and newcomers into the rotation and grow....or you eventually over 3 months, run your starters into the ground.

The path for RU is not a 1 year scenario. This is still a long term path and we have mostly underclassmen. In order to become a better program, we need to toss Young, Mulcahy and even Doucoure into the pool. And teach and correct.

I don't see a path where playing 7 kids over 3 months, makes sense.

The guy that should be lead guard is Caleb McConnell, backed up by Mulcahy. Very similar styles, McConell is a better shooter/scorer right now. Get Geo off the ball already.

The two guys that can’t play D or get by their man?

+1
Many of us were begging for a PG transfer in the offseason. A guy like Beatty would be worth his weight in gold here right now.

The expectations (NIT very possible, NCAA if everything breaks right) were not unrealistic.

I am hoping
1. New guys up their play
2. Caleb gets back his confidence
3. I am too tough on our players and they are better than i think
4. The rest of the B1G rots once conference play begins

Geo is our point guard. He had a bad game last night, but I think he's capable of doing a good job. He needs to have the ball in his hands, control the offense, and lead the team. He's got the most experience and the most offensive capability. At this point, there is no one else (Caleb, Young, or Mulcahy) who I'd trust.

The expectations for the roster haven't changed 8 games into the season for me. 8-0 vs 6-2 doesn't change much for me, maybe for others it does.

I've seen enough flashes of excellent play that didn't happen last year when RU was playing well. There are more options now vs this time last year.

Fans that want to cut corners with quick fixes aren't going to be happy and refuse to admit any progress has been made. Then it becomes other factors or variables that are reasons why a team doesn't jump from 14 to 20+ wins in 1 year.

It's not impossible for a plus 6 win jump if you're starting from 7 to 13. Getting 4 to 6 more wins is a gradual climb that many fans around the country expect but isn't reality based.

The truth is, a rebuild can come down to a handful of possessions over 4 to 5 games....or a made 3 or extra offensive rebound. In time, the fans that understand there's no cutting corners know this and there's the WFAN Yankees fan type that thinks RU sports is a menu of choices and everything gets handed to them.

Definitely overreacting. If the product on the court looks the same in two years then get worried.

Worry about recruiting. Which is failing to get one big get in this class away from serious problems.

Watched the whole game yesterday. When both teams had their starters in the beginning of both halves the game was just about even at times. However Coach Pike went to the bench to Young and Mulchahy Pitt went on several runs. They were able to exploit Mulchahy on defense and Young forced a few turnovers. The depth in the guard position is hurting there needs to be times we can get Geo off ball to get him some cleaner looks. Pike also does not take advantage of Montez quickness and his ability to attack the rim. Right now they don't have momentum stopper plays or someone who can make a shot to stop the bleeding!!

Too many of the same player our best player playing the 4 when he should be at the 2 or 3 and 1 post player who is not really a post player but is strong around the rim on the boards

Thought Yeboah was a Omoruyi clone....not even close he's another 2 or 3 possibly

Could use a PF while we're at it. Not having one of those is gonna kill us in B1G play.
