“I don’t know why there’d be an uproar,” he told USA TODAY Sports. “Everyone will know early in the broadcast who’s in, and then they’ll find out who they’re going to play.”

For what it's worth, Bryant is a graduate of Rutgers, whose tournament hopes were stamped out after a loss to Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament. It would certainly be improper to attribute the change in format to his alma mater, but it would be negligent to not mention it at all.

Really? Negligent?

"We will see," Barry said. "I think teams will appreciate getting the information as fast as possible. If that means we lose one or two reaction shots from teams, that's a small price to pay for doing what's best for the viewer and the teams in the tournament. Whenever you make a change, there's always some risk."

I wonder if CBS did any research that showed them that college basketball fans were unhappy with the format of the Selection Sunday show.

I don't know about the rest of America, but I'm not even going to watch the first 15 minutes. That way it will be like the Selection Sunday format never changed.

Leave it to a TV executive to not understand what makes the Selection show fun to watch. Also, the guy who wrote this article is a total moron with his Rutgers dig.
Gabe Fernandez of Sporting News. The links to him are on the left side of the page ..fracking moron with that unnecessary comment.

if they wanted to keep some drama they should do it in the order of 1-68 that the committee uses and not ABC....clearly once your team is past via alphabet (assuming the players can spell) ..the intrique is over for them.

Trial balloon. They make the announcement, read about the backlash, and then say “Just kidding!”

They've made this thing a two hour show. If they dragged out the announcement of who's in/who's out for 1 1/2 to 2 hours these TV execs would be getting killed. Can't win, I guess.

From his bio on the Sporting News website:

"Sporting News intern Gabe Fernandez is a proud Peruvian-American from Maryland. When he's not yelling at Manchester United, the Washington Wizards or the Baltimore Ravens through his television, he can be found photographing concerts, playing FIFA or beginning another futile attempt at getting in shape."

Here's his email: [email protected]

I am more interested in sending email to the executive producer from CBS that went to RU for being part of this travesty

When we say FROM Maryland do we mean he’s a Twerp or just a resident of said State?

‘Cause if it’s the former, I get it. ;)
