bermuda or bent...what''s your preference?...playing Sunday and Monday on all bermuda except for greens....not a big fan
chinch bugs........manganese....an all time classic:golf:[roll]I prefer a hybrid. A cross, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus....
Come on man, A1A4, bent. The new bermuda greens are excellent too. All about the maintenance budget.bermuda or bent...what''s your preference?...playing Sunday and Monday on all bermuda except for greens....not a big fan
I was just at a gala this evening for a charity that I'm pretty close to. It's called "Earl's Place". They provide a home for homeless men who are in recovery. Really great thing. Anyway, I bought a really cool Bushwood CC green flag with a couple of signed pics from the movie in the silent auction. I got it for a buddy of mine for his graduation in May from Med School.I prefer a hybrid. A cross, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. A1a4 greens are the best, but I struggle with bermuda roughCome on man, A1A4, bent. The new bermuda greens are excellent too. All about the maintenance budget.
You are not alone that struggles with bermuda rough. Especially this time of the year when it can be very thick.A1a4 greens are the best, but I struggle with bermuda rough
I like bent greens best. Poa annua 2nd. Bermuda third. I just played Fishers Island a week ago and I was reminded how good poa annua greens can be. They take a lot of flack from whiny tour pros but as you know, it's hardy. And true. I grew up on poa annua in WV. Fairways? Zoysia is such a good turf but it's almost like cheating it's so good. I'll take some of my friends from my club who are accustomed to zoysia to play a course with bent fairways and they always struggle-especially with short shots. Zoysia gives you such a margin for error and on bent fairways the ball has to be struck perfectly. Rough? I hate all rough!bermuda or bent...what''s your preference?...playing Sunday and Monday on all bermuda except for greens....not a big fan

I ilke zoysia fairways......I have never played true poa greens...in my neck of the woods you'd have to mow them twice a day to keep those nasty little seedheads from appearing..bet they'd be quickI like bent greens best. I'm so used to bermuda and zoysia fairways/rough, I actually have issues when I play on anything differentexactly....and the stuff in newport news is real gnarly I have to take at least 1 more club.......I'm just an old school bent fairways and greens and bluegrass roughs kind of guy.....call me crazy....
Poa annua gets a bad rap but some of the best courses in the world have poa annua greens...Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, Pine Valley, Fishers Island, Shinnecock, Winged Foot, Oakmont....there's a long list. Those 7 are all in Golf Digest's top 11. Think about that the next time you hear someone bad mouth poa annua.I ilke zoysia fairways......I have never played true poa greens...in my neck of the woods you'd have to mow them twice a day to keep those nasty little seedheads from appearing..bet they'd be quick
I've got a horse to ride in this tournament...all I have to do is chip, putt and try to get one in the fairway...and bring him beer:golf:[cheers]:scream:I'm so used to bermuda and zoysia fairways/rough, I actually have issues when I play on anything different
I bad mouth poa when it invades bent greens. That is a huge problem and I think you would agree. I have played 100% poa before and I won't say it is my favorite but it isn't bad as long as it isn't flowering.Poa annua gets a bad rap but some of the best courses in the world have poa annua greens...Cypress Point, Pebble Beach, Pine Valley, Fishers Island, Shinnecock, Winged Foot, Oakmont....there's a long list. The flowering thing is overhyped. I grew up on 100% poa annua and I never once noticed flowering at the end of the day. Same at Pebble where I've played it until dark. I agree that a mixture of grasses (especially fescue and poa) can create uneven surfaces but courses with bent/poa (like Oakland Hills, Garden City, Bethpage Black) all have great surfaces which putt true.I bad mouth poa when it invades bent greens. I can take you to plenty bent grass greens in ATL that has an invasion of poa and the issue is not overblown, I assure you. You may be used to high end courses. Any non-high end course that far south with bent greens is lucky to have any grass at all. Blow it out yous ***, Mr. Poopy HeadGood god this is the whitest, nerdiest thread in ages.
there are different kinds of poa.......Poa Annua trivialis and Poa Annua Reptans......we have reptans up here and it turns the suckers white when it invades.....how'd you like that fancy superintendent talk.......chinch bugs....manganeseThe flowering thing is overhyped. if you have an average temp of 80 -85 then bent is not going to be happy unless you treat it really gently which equals time and $......diseases like brown patch and pythium blight would be licking their chopsAny non-high end course that far south with bent greens is lucky to have any grass at all.
