JSU is usually a good opponent to have. This is their first losing record in a while and it allows you to get some work for arms that haven’t gotten much action. We cannot afford to continue playing 3 games against SWAC schools. They are RPI killers. Maybe just play 2.
Alcorn State #304
Jackson State #293
Grambling #294
There are 308 schools that play NCAA Division 1 baseball.
Those 3 pre-conference weekends are not helping us either. We probably should play someone with a pulse one of these weekends.
Hofstra #147
Delaware #257
Lipscomb #208
Losing to a decent Sunbelt or CUSA might be better for the RPI than beating a SWAC school.
Meh. They had a good year in 221 (RPI 118) but since then their average RPI is 269. Playing them isn't helping us any.JSU is usually a good opponent to have. This is their first losing record in a while and it allows you to get some work for arms that haven’t gotten much action.
You can’t focus on their rpi rank. Their record is the most important thing. Last year they had a better win percentage than our composite opponent win percentage this year.Meh. They had a good year in 221 (RPI 118) but since then their average RPI is 269. Playing them isn't helping us any.
Maybe keep playing JSU as one of the two SWAC gameJSU is usually a good opponent to have. This is their first losing record in a while and it allows you to get some work for arms that haven’t gotten much action.
What happens if we don't schedule 3 weekends of Q4 to begin the year?We sit at 19 today. I ran some numbers. Had we just not played Alcorn at all we would be 16.
But their opponents' winning percentage is also important, and theirs has to be abysmal. They were 25-21, so that's not awful. But their opponents were 961-1467 (.396). And that's 25% of our RPI from them right there. You can’t focus on their rpi rank. Their record is the most important thing. Yeah, it was terrible, but this is the most easily fixable mistake b/c Alcorn is going to be this bad every year and we simply don't need this 1 game. What happens if we don't schedule 3 weekends of Q4 to begin the year?
Agree...and I actually think we could be higher than 16 b/c I didn't adjust our opponents opponents win percentage when I took Alcorn out b/c its too much trouble and we know it would only help us.But their opponents' winning percentage is also important, and theirs has to be abysmal. Again, I'm OK playing them. But not both them and Alcorn. And really looking at Alcorn's records, we should never, ever play them.
