former Iowa st star who is scared of airplanes therefore couldn’t play in the nba says he is a top five player on the planet still.

Didn’t he claim he was the best player on the court in 2012? Or what that another year?

There was recently a piece on ESPIN about him, it was very informative. Changed my view of him. He is still playing ball in like Canada or some other relatively unknown league making a living. He said he was never afraid of flying, he just has anxiety issues that are compounded by several activities and airplanes are just one of those. Seems to advocate for the NBA to adapt better mental health guidelines as they should.

I watched several of his Iowa State games, and the dude was really really good. Amazingly versatile player, led his team in everything--assists, blocks, steals, scoring, rebounding, the works.

His mental health issues derailed what could've been quite a pro career.

I think he's a poor man's Ben Simmons. He'd have been a fantastic fit in today's NBA if not for his mental health struggles. Glad to see he's still playing somewhere.

He got suspended in the Canadian league.... some kind of altercation with fans. Attitude has played a good sized role in where he wound up.

It's not a joking matter at all and anyone who do find it funny, you're probably suffering from one called narcissism.Larry Sanders had solid potential in the beginning with the Bucks and it ended his career. Delonte West, DeMar Derozan & Kevin Love experience it as well.

He has serious anxiety issues from what I remember. He's not just "scared of planes". Reducing his issues to just a singular phobia isn't right.
The dude was scared to ride planes. I didn’t comment on anything else that is going on in his brain.

I just heard something about him on OTL as I was walking out of the door and remembered he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way on this board. Felt good putting him out of the NCAA-T

He is crazy as hell but nothing wrong with his pecker. He’s flattered 5-6 kids by several different women. I’d imagine they all wish he’d get over his mental problems and make an NBA paycheck.

Its not but he was also a complete ******* and gave zero to organizations trying to do everything they could including bus rides to make HIS dream a reality and he pissed on it. Mental illness is no joke. His attitude, however, is.
As I remember attempts to accommodate him were rebuffed and he took the money and ran. I guess I am just old fashioned and just don't think you have to change the whole world to please one *******

Jackie Jensen had the same problem. He could have been one of the greatest baseball players in history but when teams started flying from coast to coast he retired after only 11 years. Fear of flying did him in. The guy was good.

ESPN got taken and used for that puff piece about a sociopath. White has been coddled and spoiled all his life and his behavior has been excused and allowed by his pompous family. He was expelled from DeLaSalle the same HS Reid Travis attended, for cheating on an exam, and then went to Hopkins, who is a perennial state title contender.

White had and as recent as this past April was told by some who know him still has a drug issue. It'll be ignored by family and inner circle and a lot people locally just rolled their eyes at that ESPN story as they know what he's about.

This sounds like it's written by someone who has absolutely zero experience either dealing with a mental illness themself or seeing a family member deal with it. What you said may be right but I've learned through life experience to never try to assume I know what's going inside someone's home or head.

Anyone remember during the broadcast of UK vs ISU when one of the commentary stated that White was going transfer to UK but his anxiety kept him from taking a visit to UK.

I don't have any mental health issues, at least I don't think, but in the last year or 2 I've had absolutely terrible anxiety problems that were never there before. If I'm at a red light too long in a passenger seat, it gets to me, not when I'm driving though, if I'm stuck in abunch of traffic it gets to me. I don't smoke le mota, but the very rare times I do, I take one hit and automatically get an anxiety attack like 15 minute later and have to force myself to sleep. i also have no idea how these problems have developed, it's been a mystery to me that's for sure

You must have never suffered from anxiety. I can tell you that it becomes something that is uncontrollable. I deal with anxiety on a lesser scale, but the times I’ve had “attacks” it is the most difficult thing in the world, even when you know deep down it’s irrational.

I do and have... but this is a Rupp Rafters discussion about an obscure former Iowa state player

I just meant i doubt anyone here legitimately finds joy in his struggles
