Yet UNC has 3 national championships this century while UK only has 1.
LOL we have 3 in 20 years basically. It is such semantics. UK sucked for a long time and we still have 3 in the last 21 years. That is amazing to think about . Even with later Tubby years and BCG we have 3 since 96. UNC was THE team until Cal came along . UNC this season was on its last hurrah as they are going to suck next season by their standards and they aint gettting any talent anytime soon.

So Cal is supposed to spend months/years recruiting a kid with the pitch being "ill get you to the league the fastest", then spend a year grooming the kid for the next step only to be a no show on the biggest night of the kid's life? makes sense...

Yep. No hypocrisy his statement.

"Eventually, there’s going to come a day — if that day hasn’t come already — when Roy Williams doesn’t even need to make recruiting pitches to prospective North Carolina players. All he’ll need to do is carry around a picture of himself from Thursday night’s 2012 NBA Draft.

There the Hall of Fame coach sat, in all his glory, near the stage of the Prudential Center, beaming as he held up four fingers for a TV camera — one of them flashing a shiny national championship ring. In his lap sat four hats: Warriors, Suns, Bucks, Mavericks."

Hilarious!

And he would have been there last night if he had three lottery picks.

I listened to a local radio interview yesterday (might be the same one described) where Roy said he wasn't going to go because he was planning to attend his daughter's dance team competition. He wasn't exactly downing Cal as much as he was suggesting that Cal takes it to a whole new level.

I hate the Heels but Roy is right on this one: the draft night should be a special evening shared by the players and their families.

Coach K doesn't show up for example. Heck, he was in NYC yesterday and he still didn't go out of respect for the purpose of draft night.
You might hate the Heels, but you sure must like Roy's c**k in your mouth.

It’s clear Roy won’t win another national title. Last year was the last golden moment for him at UNC.

As for Duke, they have a coach who will be 71 next season.

There isn’t a Duke or UNC fan alive who honestly feels better about the future of their programs than Kentucky fans do right now.

Cal has said many times that these players are his sons and that he wants to attend their "graduation". Why would he not go to his son's graduation? He cares about his players when they walk out the door, not just when they have the Kentucky uniform on.

Can't be true!

It’s clear Cal has been faking his personality, every moment of the day, for the last 30+ years!

Right, that's the reason you agree with Huckleberry Hound. Because K doesn't do it. If he did, you would change your tune.

Many Duke fans were saying similar thing about Cal’s Draft Combine and openly embracing OAD.

Until Duke followed suit. Then it was “Coach K is adapting with the times.”

When K or Capel (when Capel takes over at Duke) start coming to lottery night, Duke fans will belch out, “Look how our coaches support the players!”

Good lord, lol.

If the players didn't want Cal to be there, he wouldn't, lol. This isn't hard to figure out. They apparently want him there

And please don't ******** us with Roy's titles. Like Pitino, it's proven Roy had to f'ing cheat to win.

Please don't give me any bullsh*t Cal cheated as well. If you dumb asses can't see the difference in two rogue players and years of institutional cheating by two universities, that's on you.

Until then, **** off

If K did go, you would spin it and say he went because he cares about the kids....typical of all hypocrite Duke fans. PS, thanks for allowing UK basketball to own enough space in your head to feel the need to come here. I couldn't even tell you where the Duke board is.

100% agree...
I just hate that term "rogue", it is getting to he way overused. It automatically makes me think, "UNC,UL coverup and play victim"
Sorry, had to vent. I'm surly.
Suns pass on fox and monk (monk really thought he would be in phx)
Getting Blasts from acquaintances about Cal winning draft, but can't coach...it is 250 degrees here, and to top it offf; I'm at dr with infected big bite on my ***...just an effin great Effie day

Lol Cal goes because his goal is to get players drafted and realize their dreams. He's more of a teacher, or professor, of basketball in that sense.

What I mean by that is when an academic student graduates, all the professors are there wearing their ridiculous wizard robes. So why wouldn't Cal go to his students' graduation?

It shows he cares about his players. That they were more to him than just a means to an end. That's why Roy doesn't go anymore and K doesn't go. Hey don't want their players to leave, realize their dreams, and cement their legacies. They want them to stay and for the players to cement their (K and Williams) legacies.

Wait, so you mean all of the posters here made replies without even listening to Roy's quote? Doesn't shock me at all. Some here look for any excuse to bash others, even UK players.

With that said, I do think Cal showing up highlights his position in this thing we call college basketball. As De'Aaron pointed out on Paul Finebaum's show, draft night is the most important night for Cal. De'Aaron said that getting to the league is the first priority (both for the players and Cal) and winning a championship is second. Some might ***** and moan that Cal "should be UK first and NBA second", but not me. Cal is shaping the lives of men. That is more important than a basketball game imo. So, while Roy focuses on wining championships first and players second (if that even, cough McAdoo cough), Cal focuses on improving the lives of young men. All take that all day long.

Williams did say in the interview that he feels like it's a night for the family and not the coach. He did say that thing about Cal. He said it in a joking way to make it sound like he wasn't throwing shade. Apparently, you fell for it. Also, you claim people here look for any excuse to bash the players and other teams. Does that extend to bashing other posters as you did?

KSR has an interview he did, and he was asked if he was going to the draft for his guys. He said he doesn't do that, and openly called out Cal for doing it. Said it's not their night, that it's for the families, and that Cal told him he wants the kids to hug him after their families so he gets on TV.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if the last part is true.

Cal is always recruiting. And he knows the one event today's future recruits care most about is draft night, as it's the one place they all want to be. It's the reason Cal's made sure he's the one college coach whose face is always present and front and center being interviewed every year at the draft--it sends the message that this is the coach who can get me to this night.

And if the recruit is televised hugging him after being selected? Boy, that really brings the message home-"he must be thanking him for getting him there..."

It might seem superficial and phony to some, but that's what the recruiting game is sometimes. And these are the little things Cal knows that other coaches miss that have helped make him the best recruiter in the history of the game.

Ridiculous argument. Look at last night. Fox goes 5 to a garbage team, and Tatum goes 3 to a playoff team. Davis who will one day be the best player in basketball is at New Orleans. Towns (cough, Rookie of the Year, cough) is at Minnesota. Noel went to Philly, Randle went to LA who is a garbage team now, Wall went to Washington who was a garbage team when he went there. Barnes ends up at Golden State, now McAdoo is there. That stat is a nice talking point for novices, but it's way more about being lucky and getting on the right team.

Nothing wrong with either philosophy.

If Cal wants to be there and the players want him there, then he has the right to be there.

If Roy and K want to leave that moment for the players and their family and everyone is good with that, then they have the right to sit it out.

It's funny how each coach uses the moment to benefit themselves, though.

Cal uses it as a photo op, and recruiting tool. Roy uses the "I'm more honorable than that. It's about the kids and their family, not me" spin to make himself look better than Cal.

Either method is acceptable. All is fair in love, war, and basketball recruiting. Well, except for using chemical or biological weapons, of course.
