So what are the guesses about the late season line up? Jax? Ramirez? Ryder?
I am still for redshirting Jax especially with Ryder struggling with a shoulder. Fitting in wrestlers over the next few years will be important but 1 wrestler will fit in wherever and whenever he wants and that is Jax. Plus he is a certainty to get an Olympic Redshirt if he wants it. Also, any year we are challenging for a team title we will want Jax in the lineup. We are not challenging this year. But soon I hope we are challenging every year. Penn St. of course is the Program we want to challenge. They lose 1 star after this year Haines but they lose 2 superstars the next year Van Ness and Messinbrink. We lose only Doucet this year and the year after we don't lose anybody because we will have the bigger Raney after a redshirt to replace Swiderski and I don't know if Facundo will get 1 more year for a medical redshirt. With development of our 25 and 26 classes we could challenge after next year. So, I would wrestle Ramirez this year who down the road could struggle starting. Well we will soon know what will happen. Down the road if White can make 184 after a redshirt could take Ryder's spot because he seems to have much more offensive potential.

Keep in mind the MS and OS with guys still having a RS.

So, Jax could still RS in the future as well as utilize the other two options.

We have a logjam yes, but we also have the ability to move shirts around and have minimal waste of eligibility.

Ryder will be fine. It’s perplexing to me how down people view him. He’s lost to #2, #7, #7, #4 and #20 (I don’t count Fox as he was clearly injured.) He is a freshman, at a bigger weight class who had to have had some rust and a little nagging injury.

Do you think Jax and Ryder go this year at NCAAs ? Or it will take couple of weeks for us to know that?

Dont we lose Sprately after next year? Need one of Ignacio or Zinklin to take over. Ross to take over Doucet or takes a RS and we get 1 year rental.

Yes, Troy has one more season after this one.

Im in favor of a year for Ross. But, I bet he gets to Stillwater this summer, his weight, confidence and ability will make it hard to spend money on a rental.

However, those attributes won’t be realized until the portal is closed.

Dreshaun needs to gain some weight he could use a year and be 245 and ready to go after a RS.

I’m sure this has been answered before, but are Cody and Coby not very close?

I'm not down on him, but I do think that like all of our wrestlers, he has to perform at a high level in March to guarantee his spot in the lineup going forward. Nothing would be better for us than for Ryder to go out at NCAAs and lock down an iron grip on his spot.

Everyone has to perform at high level at NCAAs?

My worry with him is that he loses in the BR. He needs to AA and build confidence.

He already wrestles close matches and guys with shoulder injuries are afraid to get stuck underneath on shots. Which means he will have 1 point and OT matches with guys he probably shouldn't

We are building the type of program where guys who lose in the blood round are at high risk of getting replaced. Even a fringe AA finish might not be good enough. Amine and Fish were AAs last year and each only scored 5.5 points, the same as Jamison and 0.5 more than Teague. The math on catching PSU gets a lot tougher when you have guys scoring 5-ish points.

I was against bringing in Jax this year, but now that we did, I don't really like the idea of him not going. Would have preferred getting Ronnie as ready as possible.

Yep love the discussion. Why do you feel he has a better chance against Mendez?
One of my friends I made in college was almost 6'2 and was a 2x state champion at 136lbs in HS (by this time he was walking around close to 148). The guy was incredibly hard to wrestle on the mat and seemed really strong but one day while lifting I was shocked that he couldnt incline bench 85lbs for a single rep.

Yes Carter Young cradled SVN. But he couldnt hold it could he? Because he wasnt strong enough or he wasnt so much longer than SVN that his leverage allowed him to hold it. I was told from the start of the season that Serge could benefit from some strength training. To watch him wrestle you wouldnt think it and Vega has been a bad azz for sure. But it is a thing. Guys will do their best NOT to scramble with Vega going forward (they already are) and that being the case I think Vega's chances are better where his length plays a bigger factor (mendez). Again, just my opinion.

What if I told you that Mendez is slightly taller than Van Ness? Would that change anything

I don't see him having to take a RS to be successful at 149 right away but it may be the best for the team. Gotta remember though Raney is a 149 as well so RS both next year means another year of overlap with Vega and Raney

We probably see Echemendia at 149 next year. The infection he had in his ankle which put him in the hospital really took a toll on his body and he was small and that's why he went 141 this year. As the year has gone on his cut has become a thing.
Ech looks huge to me. It will be interesting to see how he handles 3 weigh- ins at nationals.

I totally agree with this. Lots of talk on here about redshirting Ross before he even gets on campus and shows what he can do. He is already super talented, and the competition at 285 for next year looks softer than a Tuesday night stripper. Do we really gain that many points at NCAAs by bringing in a guy like Amos instead of just wrestling Ross?

If he can put on 10 lbs and keep it on he will be 240 and size shouldn't be an issue

For me it's not about Ross's ability to place as an undersized heavy, but about his longterm health.

I had a roommate in college that some of yall may remember. Kirk Mammen. He was our HWT and was a 4 time All-American. I think 5th was his highest finish. About as big as he ever got was 235. He was tall as well. Now I know people maybe are expecting more from Ross because of his athleticism but hard to scoff at 4 time all American. He stayed healthy against much bigger opponents so I’m not concerned about Ross’ health sustainability. He is super Athletic. If he needs to bulk he can do it in the off season. If he is ready throw him out there as a freshman

Kirk has a son who was scrappy a few years ago in IL . Kirk was always a nice guy.

Ross has already had a labrum surgery so that's the concern for some I believe. If he was 149 wrestling other 149s it wouldn't be as much of a concern. But being 240 and having a guy 270 sprawling on you while your extended could be an issue
