Saw the thread about Eric Eshoo not being on the 2019 roster. Assume we'll get full confirmation of roster changes at Media Day on Wednesday, but here's a list of players who were on the 2018 roster at the start of the season and are not on the 2019 roster:

Eric Eshoo (SB)

Jango Glackin (LB)

Brian Kaiser (SB)

Alonzo Mayo (DB)

Steven Reese (WR)

Mason Suitt (WR)

Jackson Tirmonia (WR)

Cam Green* (SB)

Austin Hiller* (DB)

Jeremy Larkin* (RB)

Chee Anyanwu* (LB)

Nathan Fox (LB) = transferred to Houston

* = we know they medically retired

I wonder how this compares to other programs. While I don’t follow other programs closely like I do with NU, it does seem like we have had more medical retirements in the recent past. We rarely lose players to transfer or conduct but do seem to lose more to retirement.

This is a phenomenon manifesting itself throughout football at all levels. Players and their families are much more focused on the long term impacts of football injuries and many are choosing to walk away rather than rehab and come back.

I agree.
Players with bright, non-football futures are more inclined to retire. This is not a Sabanizing of NU football.

So, you're saying that they are Eshooing football due to health...

Sorry, last time I'd have the opportunity to make that pun.

I, for one, will remember him fondly, and when I hear his name, I'll respond with, "God bless him"

Two dad jokes for the price of one. Carry on, all
