Have you ever seen a pitcher like him that throws 82mph, doesn't have an elite arsenal of off speed pitches yet puts up ridiculous stats like a 1.0nothing era over 80 innings? He throws slower than batting practice sessions with Don Zimmer and NOBODY can hit him. Danny Almonte was throwing harder than Mitchell in the Little League World Series. It's 17ing amazing! He puts such little stress on his arm I think Cohen could pitch him every single game in Omaha for 7 and we'd win the damn World Series. Ross Mitchell is in my top 10 favorite MSU baseball players and I still can't explain how the 17 he does it. It must be that he hypnotizes the batter with his flying squirrel shirt and Fernando Rodney hat while tapping his glove and calmly pumping in 78mph heaters one after another that they are just completely intimidated into grounding out once again. Ross Mitchell is an anomaly. He is a freak of nature. He needs to write a book or be studied by scientists so that MSU can have his secrets FOREVER! Someone go kidnapp 3 of Nkemdiche's whooores and assign them to Mitchell. He deserves a BJ every day till he graduates. 80 innings nothing era. 17ing amazing!

My friend was telling me that the Southern Miss players were telling him that Ross' fastball has more run on it than anyone they have faced.
If Gentry can become consistent in what he was doing on Wednesday, he can have that kind of success. He was throwing a fastball with lots of movement about 86-88, a slurvy curve ball around 77, and an overhand curve in the high 60's. That overhand curve, used judiciously, is simply brutal. It looks so juicy and delicous to a hitter, but the bottom falls out of it.

I don't know if he cracked 80 very often if ever, and his curve ball was just okay, but that change up was absurd. It was almost like multiple pitches in one, he could throw it different speeds, sometimes down into the 50's.

Chase Fowler, who is Southern's catcher, told me his pitches have more movement than any pitcher he's ever faced.

I'm very high on Gentry, especially if he just dropped down to the sidearm delivery after coming to State. The first time I saw him pitch early in the year, I was blown away by the movement on his pitches. With maturity and experience, he is going to be very good and he will pitch quite often, much like Mitchell does for us now.

Hahaha was wondering who was going to catch this. Danny was 14 I think posing as a 12 year old and he was throwing straight GASSSSS from a much closer mound. His pitches were registering at higher than Aroldis Chapmans. That was by far the most entertaining LLWS even though it was bogus.
I think Harden is in the top 10 career strike outs at MSU which is even more impressive given he couldn't hit 80 on the gun.

As for Ross and Gentry....Can you imagine the possibility of having a healthy Woodruff and Lindgren as your top 2 starters next year, and having Ross, Wednesday's Gentry, Bracewell (maybe), Holder, Shelly, an improved Fitts, and Cox (If he isn't the 3rd starter) out of the bullpen? Think of the different arm angles and changes in velocity with that group. I have been super impressed with Gentry, and probably even more impressed with the midseason change to Will Cox and how effective it has been. It is not easy to change arm angles during the middle of a SEC schedule and actually be able to contribute.
If we can find another solid lefty out of the pen for next year, our staff could be even better than this year. We will need a good hard throwing lefty to replace Girodo. Any ideas who that guy might be next year?
