The scout is ridiculous, RHJ didn't do what most kids do nowadays, by being held back in his age group.

He arrived in college age 18 and played and completed his 4 years at age 21.....some kids are sophomores at age 21, after graduating HS and then spending a year at a Prep school somewhere.

If RHJ was 24 years old or turning 25 during this past season like a lot of CBB players, it would be a different story. Personally, I think an athlete like RHJ, probably hits his true stride from age 23 to 30, so an offseason of refined training and another season of CBB, wouldn't be the worse thing in the world. He would not impact his draft status in a negative way. He will be turning 22 next month and there's nothing wrong with a 22 year old kid playing CBB and hitting his stride as a player and improving his strength and other items.

He can always do that after RU this semester, assuming he is graduating this spring or summer etc. If I were advising RHJ, I would recommend a 5th year at RU, become 1st team all B1G and paired with Cliff and Mulcahy, lead RU to another top half of the B1G finish and cement himself as a Top 20 to 40 prospect in the draft next year.

Some scouts need to see things closer to the finished product, which is OK. But at age 21, RHJs best basketball is ahead of him.

It wouldn’t change anything. Ron is who he is.

NBA players jump off the page at you in college, Ron really doesn’t do that and an extra year wouldn’t change that.

Ron will likely be 2nd round if at all and he’ll get an opportunity to make it, the rest is up to him.

Poor man’s Tobias Harris IMO.

NBA stars jump off the page. But did Alex Caruso stand out to you? Landry Shamet? Josh Christopher?

Ron will get an opportunity to make it. To be quite honest, I think he gets a year on a roster and then up to him from there. He’s not at athletic as some other guys, but he is athletic enough and shoots well enough to make a roster in the right opportunity.

Of course there are exceptions, I’m just speaking in general.

Caruso just committed to defense, and Christopher was a one and done, no?

Don’t remember watching Shamet much tbh.

I think Cliff has more NBA potential than Ron, but that’s just my opinion.

He can bang nba style already …and can Board well enough for a NBa 3 ….but what He would need to do if he come back to Rutgers is playing three and not the four…work on the quickness and lateral movement on defense and price he can take the ball to the basket and shoot it on the bounce without needing to go back to basket (pull up game )

I think his assessment is pretty fair to be honest. He was good this season, but with better conditioning, he could have been way better. He’s got decent hops and inside moves for his size, but if he was quicker, he’s got the shot and moves to take it next level. Still needs further development, but still has potential at his age, if the work is put in.

Truth bomb. Everything we see in general. He would GREAT benefit from a 5th year to develop. Move to the 3. He’s a YOUNG 21…. Still a puppy and his body bares that out. Break the inconsistency mold and get lighter… but sadly he wontt come back and do that

Wanting him to come back is fine but let’s not pretend it’s in his best interest. Everyone can see right through that.

His health at draft time could be a decciding factor regarding draft status. There definitely was a issue because when the team came out at half time Harper went to the side of the court for treatment/exercise with the trainer.I think he would have averaged more than 15 points and been more active in games without the health issue. He still was Rutgers best player as seen with games won with last second 3 pointers.Harper was a difference maker and will be missed by Rutgers fans.

He needs to slim down a little bit but I think he will do way better than this scout thinks at the combine.

This guy thinks because college kids can’t shoot, that it means there’s more defense being played. What a simple person.
It's not close to the same game that was being played
a generation ago. If you think that's a good thing,
that's ok. I'll take Magic, Bird, Jordan , Pippen, Dr J, etc,
over the current collection any day of the week

I stopped reading after "tenacious defender" which I know wasn't the scout's comment.
I wish him the best but I think the scout is correct. We'll see.
He can guard 1-5. Even Caleb can’t do that and Caleb was our best defender. Ron is a solid defender and rebounder. But his real game is shooting and around the rim at this level. Likely just shooting at the next level

No not at all. Just unwatchable. Nothing complicated about it. Lots of whining and crying by the players on every call. Coaches have no meaning. There is a lot of talented athletes but totally unwatchable.
The tree isn’t a player in the nba who complains more than Paul mulcahy so you’re talking out of your *** buddy

Pretty much agree with the scout. Not clear what position he'd play for one. Is he a guard? small forward? He seems too slow and not quick enough for either position. I think he ends up in the development league, or overseas, and then maybe he'll improve enough to get a shot in the NBA.

Ok. You're entitled to your own opinion. Can and Did are two different things.

I spoke to a ex long term NBA player who said pretty much the same thing as the scout.

It’s up to Ron to make a career out of the NBA. He will prob have to cut some weight, but ultimately it’s about proving he can be a very good shooter while able to defend a few positions. Once he proves that, it’s his finishing and great teammate qualities which will keep him in the league. It doesn’t even matter much anymore if he gets drafted, just has to prove himself

I appreciate Ron Harper and his career at Rutgers. He is however not an NBA player in 2022 He would be much better off coming back for another year either here or at another school. It’s his personal choice and I assume he will rely upon the advice of not only his dad but other current and past NBA players. A year in the D league or overseas may improve his draft stock . I’m hoping he makes a good choice.

He's a small forward/wing.

Ron can shoot the 3. He slims down a little bit and he can be a 3 and D type off the bench. He's got long arms and is quicker than he appears.
