He's not coming back. He'd be dumb to come back and risk injury like Copeland. He can develop his game and add weight next year in the G-League while getting paid.

It would be like him joining a completely new team at Nebraska if he comes back. He'll know only a couple of players and none of the coaches. Probably would feel pretty weird for him to come back. May as well join a team that's going to pay him.

$35,000 is $30,000 or so more than he gets in his allowance if he comes back. Plus travel per diems, etc. And gets him further along the road of being watched by NBA execs, IMO, plus full time training and practice instead of 20 hours per week.

Great, but my point was that the odds of him signing a $850,000 rookie contract is tiny. He will more than likely be making $35,000 over the 5 months. So he has to make that stretch another 7 months. G League is like A ball for baseball. There ain't much glamour.

The G League will brag about all of the call ups, but most of those are 10 day contracts and not long term deals. The vast majority of G League players are career G League players or they decide to go overseas and play.

Just announced he's staying in the draft. Best of luck, Isaiah!

Can't wait to see the new-look Hoiskers!

And the education isn't worth anything? I guess it's a moot point now

The education is worth more than the G league salary but he's making an educated gamble about what he can make and whether or not he makes a roster. I'm not as pessimistic about him making a roster as Tuco. He kind of fits what teams want on the bench below the regulars with tremendous athletic ability and flexibility on defense. He's proven that he can guard NBA quality players in the B1G. IMO, he wouldn't probably improve his draft stock by coming back. He's already gotten quite a bit of buzz. The one thing he needs to do is prove he can consistently shoot in the 30%+ range from the NBA arc. If not, there's a whole bunch of fun to be had playing overseas and decent money. I have a friend who played in Australia and had a blast. The problem is IF he signs with an NBA team and doesn't make their roster they can really jack him around on where he plays. It's a calculated gamble.

Are you serious with the comment about his ability to guard and play D?

Several projections have him early 2nd round, where almost all players receive a guaranteed contract. Even if he doesn't make an NBA roster, he'll make a nice living playing overseas after that. Whereas if he comes back to college and tears an ACL like Copeland, he'll never get a shot at the NBA and may blow any chance of playing professionally.

One year under Hoiberg isn't going to suddenly transform him into a Lottery Pick. College seniors are almost never drafted in the 1st round because of their age. Virtually every 1st round pick is a freshman or sophomore. I believe Grayson Allen was the only senior drafted in the 1st round last year.

Great point. What some don’t understand is that him going into the NBA Draft this year could really cost him $$ down the road. IF Roby came back and really added to his game, he could be a fringe lotto pick. Last year’s last Lotto pick picked signed a 3 year $5 Million total contract. The guys picked early in the 2nd round signed 3 year deals for less than $2million total. He’d make $2 million alone next year if he ended up a lotto pick.

It’s like who wants to be a millionaire. Do you take the payout now or go for big $. It’s a gamble. But I can tell you that G-league basketball isn’t fun. Playing in front of 12 people a night, no party’s. No big man on campus. No jersey chasers.

Good luck to you, Isaiah! I wish you all the best in your next chapter..

That’s about the best I have too. I do wish he’d come play on Hoibergs team a year but I’m not as worried about it now as I was several months ago...;)
