unless H 2174 can stop it.

HB 2174 is called the West Virginia Monument and Memorial Protection Act. The presence of some Capitol grounds monuments – such as the Stonewall Jackson statue in front of the Capitol at the east end and the Robert C. Byrd statue in the rotundahave been called into question because of their associations with racism.

I was never a fan of Byrd but he brought a lot of pork to the state which would have went to other blue states instead...that being said...the cancel culture needs to end.

A show called Shameless on Showtime focused on the naming of a Jr. High School on the South Side of Chicago. In this back comedy the jr high was named Dennis Hasert (spelling) jr high. Of course that needed changed and they had a contest. Michael Jordan, Ghandi, Obama etc. were all blocked...they decided on The Jr. High School...which is where we are headed...

Not sure what you're talking about regarding message cut off.

Yes, WV doesn't have any other more important issues they need to tackle, so let's waste some time on statues.

Ah OK. Must be my old eyes cause I don't see it. Doesn't change how silly it is. They are f'n statues. Pass something about how WV is going to tax unemployment for 2020, you mother f'ers.

I bolded it - maybe that is the issue? "Robert C. Byrd statue in the rotunda – have been called into question because of their associations with racism."

Both sides of the argument are stoopid. Focus on real issues for this State. If and when we are rolling in low unemployment, higher wages, great education, low drug problems, increased population, etc., then maybe we can get around to dealing with statues of people that did something bad 150 years ago.

I just don't think statues of traitors is something we will ever agree on, and I just don't care.

I don't have a problem with taking down of the confederate statues.

When we have solved the issues that are MUCH more important than statues that are decades or centuries old, then I'm all in or addressing inanimate objects.

Those statues were put up by the southern democrats. It was meant to disrespect blacks.

I understand, but starving American citizens are more important at the moment, especially when so much of our tax dollars are taking care of illegal foreign nationals first. Homeless vets are more important. Our country being torn down is more important. Until we get those problems solved, try not looking at the statues if they affect you more than those issues.

Does it solve a problem and how high on the list of important issues does it address in your opinion?

They weren’t put up in 1938 to commemorate slavery oppression. They were monuments to recognize Civil War veterans on both sides. Since some on the Southern half never owned a slave or were Diplomats who pushed for it.

Now..today..I think something like the Stars and Bars should only be present at a Military Park. No in the public eye like restaurants, service stations, and hotels.

Yawn. Both sides owned slaves (Union and Confederate). Should we also trash the American flag while we are at it. No one alive today was around when slavery in the US existed. US Civil War was more than just about “muh slavery”. Stonewall Jackson is not just some racist that fought on the Confederate side. He is much more important and distinguished than others give him credit. He is a WV legend.

It's low on the list of things to address in this State IMO.
Meh. I think it doesn't need the oxygen to debate, but it's a pretty simple decision that shouldn't affect the time they dedicate to fixing all ills.

It's important to blacks. Just as incarceration of felons is important to those of us who live without committing a crime. Unfortunately, there are those who think it's more important to let out violent criminals than to keep them in jail.

Most of us can walk and chew gum at the same time. Shouldn't take up more than 5 mins to authorize a statues removal. Now, if someone wants to put up a Malcom X or a Farrakan statue, that's one I would be against.

What issue does it solve that is more important that taxes, jobs, education, drug issues, etc.?

This has been going on for quite awhile elsewhere. I just stated my preference that it not cause riots.
