I have never seen a parent hover over another parent the way he did at a youth game. I played 2 sports every season until high school as well. Both varsity and club/travel teams (so you can’t just blame it on where I grew up).

This is not common unless maybe for inner cities.

And even if it was, that doesn’t make it ok for a representative of any division 1 university to act this way. Especially ours. This is behavior I’d expect from U of L or KU.

I was in the suburbs watching players from my team participate for their various AAU teams. Of the 6 games Saturday--a parent was thrown out of 5 of them and the other game 2 of them should've been. They are insane when it comes to their "babies" and the "unfair treatment" but also want to use youth sporting events as a way to loudly let everyone else know how smart they are about the game, and berate the officials who are there from 8 am to 8 pm most to get some work in the offseason to stay in shape. Their job is to keep the games moving due to the greed the Tournament hosts have in wanting as much $ as possible.

These same parents think "AAU" is universal too. To them the game between Chico's Bail Bonds and Dirt McGirt Carpet Cleaner is the equivalent of EYBL game in front of college coaches. So when you share that nobody will remember who won the Tangerine Bracket of the Insert local Business sponsoring the local D Level Tournament, they are stunned but usually come around. Some want to take it to parking lot to fight other parents/refs, but it's so bad that in our state we're having a shortage of men/women who want to officiate because of the brutal treatment.

Same here in KY. Shortage of refs and umpires at all levels of sports.

There was actually quite a bit more than the world saw on that chick's edited Twitter video, FYI. I can't provide more detail - but I have seen the edited part (not available online...you'll just have to trust me on how I know).

Not condoning his reaction - he should have just walked away and ignored it. But he was heavily poked with several, shall we say, not so nice "terms" related to his height and skin color after he was simply trying to help out with some basketballs that got loose during the game.

I will concede that different areas have different people acting different ways. I maintain my position that a representative of UK should not be acting like any other parent and should be held to a higher standard. It would appear that the university agrees as well.

Not condoning it, just not surprised by it nor should anyone with how awful the behavior has become. Agreed when that video came out that it was really reckless and stupid for Harris to have done that, and also added that his job was being scrutinized already.

I had more trouble out of irate mothers and grandmothers when I officiated youth sports. They have no filter and know a man can't do or say anything back to them.

Never had too much trouble with dads and granddads on the other hand, because I was a big sob. Cash me outside the fence.

When I was a sophomore in high school in the 90s, I had a part time job refereeing recreation basketball games/umpiring recreation baseball games on Friday and Saturday nights. I had grown men cussing me and threatening to fight me over blown calls in youth games, as in little kids (6-8 year olds). These leagues are more about learning the game than winning by 100. The “officials” were usually retirees or high school kids making $6-10 a game.

Over aggressive, living vicariously through children, sports moms/dads are the worst. Take it down a notch or 25. It seems like it’s only gotten worse since then.

I only knew about the incident at UT where he got a T. I'm glad he's gone after hearing about these other incidents. I'd like to see Cal tone it down some too, but I'm sure that ship has sailed.

My grandson has played baseball from U8 to U12 in Cal Ripken, and I can honestly say I've never seen a parent or a coach cause any trouble here in Paintsville. Now HS basketball is totally different, I haven't saw them personally, but I've heard and read about several altercations during HS BB season.

I wanted further clarification on how you define inner city and how it relates to crime, and relevance to this particular topic. At times people use “ inner city” as code words so I asked you a question.
