3 of our 4 losses have been to teams currently ranked #14, 16 and 18 respectively.

AAC has three teams in the top 25 ( Temple at #21 )

I think we'll be favored over SMU, UCF and Tulane with an opportunity to get to 6-6 and be bowl eligible.

If we can steal a game from Cincinnati or Navy, this could be a very impressive first year for this new staff.

Tulsa Golden Hurricane and SMU are about the same caliber/level right now. I'll take SMU in a close one. Defense is horrific.

SMU has taken a step back. They were a better team at the beginning of the season and their QB looked like a future Heisman candidate. Since then their offense has not performed as well. Our defense isn't good but neither is theirs and we can score on anyone. The only problem I see is that we don't always play well in Dallas.

We have wins against New Mexico #142, ULM #153 and Fla Atl #156. Those are some pretty awful teams, The good news is that we can get to a bowl by beating SMU #125, Tulane #126, and UCF #139. Pretty crazy that a team can make a bowl and never beat anyone higher than #125. I think we win four of our last five (lose at Cincy) and finish 7-5. Darn good season considering last year.

I hope we can get to six wins. The thing that's a little scary right now is or depth, or lack there of. As coach Monty mentioned in his post game remarks last Friday, "we need to get a lot of people well". Our running back injuries have taken us way down on the depth chart. Rowdy Simon showed some good running Friday but we need some guys to get healthy at that position. If we can't get the running game going, Dane will be looking up from the ground a lot more. There are other positions that we need to get healthy also if we are going to get to six wins.

Teams have started keeping their QB in the pocket and forcing him to throw. SMUs defense is atrocious, maybe worse than ours.

We have a shot to go to a bowl game. We just need to get some consistent play from our CBs and a good pass rush. The young Hurricanes who are playing on Offense and Defense are gaining valuable experience. They are the foundation of the rebuilding process. This year redshirts and the incoming freshman going to improve this team. We need one more DTs who can rush the passer and two good CB's. I think they should get two JUCO CB's and one high school CB recruits. I would be happy with one JUCO CB and two CB high school recruits.

I believe Tulsa is at a disadvantage when it comes to juco transfers. Our stringent academic requirements preclude us from sniping good juco athletes more often than not. Their credits won't transfer as easily to TU as they would to a public or state university. I could be in the wrong here, but I thought I read something to that effect in time past.

Yep. And remember, preseason we were picked to finish last in the AAC. 6-6 or 7-5 puts us well ahead of the rebuilding schedule.

I'm confused. Someone please straighten me out where I'm wrong. But I thought there were only 128 Division 1 FBS schools playing football. Sure some teams play FCS schools but don't the FCS schools have there own rating systems? Then how are some of the teams we play this year rated higher than 128?

I think 84 of the 128 schools will go to a bowl game this season, which I feel is ridiculous. I guess we all play under the current rules and if we can go to a bowl this year, I'm as happy of the progress we've made this season as the rest of you are.

I used to argue there were way too many bowls as well, but then I started noticing that almost every bowl game I watched they would show the teams making an appearance at a nearby children's hospital. I don't think you can ever have too much of that.

And that 0-7 North Texas team got obliterated by an FCS school which precipitated the immediate dismissal of McCarney versus letting him ride out the season. By obliterated, I believe the final was 66-7 in favor of the Pirates. I believe SMU gave up more points to North Texas.

We do need to get some bodies healthy at RB. As much as everyone likes Rowdy Simon, I don't think he can sustain the whole game being the featured RB. I would expect 20-25 plays with President at QB this weekend as well.

I don't believe TU is guaranteed a bowl at 6-6, merely eligible. 7-5 yes. I'm waiting until after Saturday in Dallas to even think about the issue.

I wouldn't count our chickens too soon. TU we will score but unless we shut down their scrambling QB the game may be in doubt until the end. CM needs a win and has plenty of motivation.

The only SMU game I watched in its entirety was the JMU game. JMU is a FCS school and won because they also had dual threat QB (transfer from Ga Tech IIRC) that scrambled effectively when his receivers were covered.

I am hopeful but not overly confident that this game is the lock that some think it will be.

There are stringent academic requirements at TU but we have a few JUCO transfer on the team. We only need one or two players. One JUCO CB and DT or two CB's either combination would be fine with graduation taking a few key starters. The young DL players look good but don't have enough weight to maintain against big offensive linemen throughout the season.
