Let's get some big-men! Omoruyi and Hutchins-Everett fit the bill! Heck... I'll take any of these PFs and centers

# 19 was at ND this past weekend on an unofficial
I'm sorry but I can't remember who that is at the moment. We have been working on rankings & position rankings for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 class since August 30 that I'm kinda fried on rank No. rn.

But since it is the class of 2020 and I heard that he was going to visit South Bend I'm going to guess it's the big kid from DeMatha Dickinson. IIRC he was in the 20-16 range.

Fool’s gold. The recruit locally paradigm has not worked in decades and generations. Please drop the notion. Stop thinking locally. Get the best possible players who want to compete in the Big Ten. Ticket buyers do not care where the players hail from.

Mr. Twister. I understand where you are coming from, but I believe Pikiell and staff are different from coaches over the last few decades at RU. For example, of the local guys listed in the recent top 150 we have a legitimate shot with at least 4 of those guys. We may have a legit shot with some of the other local guys, but I simply am unaware of their interest. This staff has impressed local power brokers and we are a viable choice for many locals absent the true one and dones. At this stage of development while you do not turn away a one and done type, it is not critical for turning the team into a top 25 type program. If we land Massoud - a NYC kid - to go along with Mulcahy that is a very good 2man class of local kids. Last year we signed another strong local in Harper, and the year before Doucoure.

Moreover, the staff is not limiting itself to simply recruiting locals. Baker, Mathis, the Juco are good recruits who are not locals.

I appreciate the historical based frustration. I have been critical of the program for a long time and have voiced my displeasure on the board. I can tell you for certain based upon interactions with NYC AAU and high school coaches that the perception of RU basketball in trending in a positive direction.

Hang in there. We all may be rewarded in the near future.

19 is Dickinson, who was already 7' when he was a soph. DeMatha still brings it under Mike Jones, who succeeded Morgan Wootten, who won over 1200 games in 46 years. Five national championships. He was coach at DeMatha when I came to the Md-DC area to work, and he was still there when I retired and came to Fla. Amazing career. Think he once took the NC State job for a few days, but thought better of it and went back to DeMatha. Only college job he really wanted was Maryland. Should have gotten the job when Len Bias died and Lefty was fired. Instead they hired Bob Wade, a tough HS coach from Baltimore, who soon landed Maryland in trouble with the NCAA, incurred sanctions, and was fired. Saw dozens of Maryland basketball games over the years--and once saw DeMatha play Power Memorial (Lou Alcindor) in an all-star HS doubleheader at Maryland.

Thanks for the history lesson. I grew up 20 minutes from DeMatha so your post was a trip down memory lane.

Agreed. Spoke with the coach of one of the top teams in the state, and they love Pike and staff. Pike also seems to have made the whole north east "local," as New England seems to be a focus. Its usually under recruited by everyone but Uconn and Baker seems to be helping with that.

Those New England prep schools and academies are actively recruited by just about every P5 program. Why do you think that NE is usually under recruited by everyone but Uconn?

I guess ignorance on my part? Lol... Baker seemed really under recruited and prior to Pikiell I just never heard much about New England recruiting, or any kids from New Hampshire, etc. As a Rutgers fan I've followed coaches that mainly recruited NJ down to Maryland, or just not at all (Hello Eddie Jordan!)

Thanks for the info!

I can't recall for certain but I think when Baker committed to RU he held 25 scholarship offers, however, the only high major offers were RU and Kansas State. At least that is how I remember it.

Also, Baker was at Proctor Academy and that is not known for producing high major prospects year-in-and-year-out like Wocester Academy, Wilbraham & Monson, Vermont Academy, Tilton School, Kimball Union, Cushing, Northfield Mount Hermon, New Hampton and of course Brewster Academy. So props to the RU staff for finding Baker.

I know it is sport to beat up on Eddie Jordan here, but I've been told that recruiting the NE prep schools is not as easy as showing up, finding a kid you like and recruiting him. If you don't have very solid relationships up there, or with the kid and his family from his previous school, it is tough sledding.

Very encouraging and the primary reason that despite being picked to again finish near the bottom in the league this year, there is a basis for optimism about mens basketball unlike football.

Who says i solely think locally. I see what our roster is comprised of. I just said itd be beneficial to snag 1-2 of these kids. NJ has an insane amount of bball talent.

We also have Harper and Mulcahy coming in as big NJ guys. So im not sure how this paradigm is destined to fail. Im all for national recruitment and also trying to snag up whats in our own backyard.
