Wow - that sucks. RIP Tom. One of our best.
Rest in peace, Coach. You’ll be missed by all. A true gentleman.
Me too. I came back to NJ just in time to see Tom Young and Frank Burns lead the BB and FB teams. Great fun.
Wonderful Coach and man! Gave us a lot of thrills. RIP, Mr Young. The whole RU Nation mourns your passing.
Very sorry to hear this. Another part of my youth has passed away. First team I ever rooted for in anything was Tom Young's team - they started the whole sports journey for me as a kid.
Tom Young and Frank Burns both have gone Home. My start as a Rutgers fan was provided by them.
Rutgers legend.
Thank you for the memories.

I am so sorry to hear this. Tom was a wonderful coach and an even better person. He brought so much happiness to me providing us with a 31-0 record going into the Final Four in 1976. I attended 13 games in that season and I have been a RU fan since Lloyd & Valvano. Tom made Rutgers into the best team in the East and one of the best in the country.
Pic of our beat coach ever and our worst coach ever. RIP Coach Young thanks for the memories!!
Littlepage was the worst, could not win in mediocre Atlantic Ten.
Could not only win , he put arguably the worst teams in rutgers history out there
Tom Young was a great Rutgers MBB HC
this tribute page should be about our thoughts about him and not be sidetracked into evaluations of those who coached before or after Tom Young.
My own opinion is : Coach Young earned the type of respect from RU MBB fans that his tribute thread should be about him and not use his sucess to knock those who couldn't reach the standards Coach Young set.

The thread is about coach Young. Zero need to get into other coaches. Not good form
Agree. I shouldn’t have responded to the guy that mentioned littlepage. my fault .
RIP tom
Never had a losing season on the banks. His Final Four team was my freshman year. Have lived and died RU hoops ever since. RIP Coach.

RIP. Great coach, and he played a big part in my enjoyment of my years at Rutgers.
I'll always remember him at games with that white towel....

Brought Rutgers to the Final Four. Never had a losing season. A legend at RU. RIP Tom
RIP. He was before my time rooting for Rutgers but everything that I have read on Tom Young as a person and as a coach personafies a man of great class and integrity.
As an aside, he still remained bitter and perplexed about how Rutgers turned down the Big East invite - which was the main reason why he left Rutgers

His comments about Phil in that were priceless. Also Phil’s comments: “I don’t know if I was a player who shouldn’t have been coaching or a coach who shouldn’t have been playing.”
I remember that 1976 year like it was yesterday. Undefeated football and basketball regular seasons. It doesn't get any better than that for a school. Coach Young was great for the University and putting it on the national sports map.
