He made a great impression in 1979 when we stopped in D.C. for a tour of the Capitol while on a Gulfport-based student trip. We were on a 3 week tour of the country via Greyhound bus and asked if we could speak with the Mississippi Senator. He dropped everything and went out of his way to show us around the Capitol. Very cordial and sincere man.
RIP Senator
RIP, not a fan of his.
He was in DC for 40 years. The problems this country is facing today just did happen in last 2. In my younger years Thad and Trent were at the top of my list in respect. Now its very evident they were on the sidelines with their heads turned the other way...........This has nothing to do with political!
They both realized (smartly) that they could not change the system, they could only go with it and try to look out for Mississippi the best they could. If they had tried to fight the power, the only people who would have suffered would have been the people of Mississippi. He was in DC for 40 years. If Cochran hadnt got the money for Mississippi, it would have just gone somewhere else.
I guess it more of my misguided opinions. I thought his job was a hellava lot more than get a slice of Pig!
I was there during James O Eastland, John Stennis and Sonny.......................
