Hollywood icon Robert Duvall has died ... the actor passed away at his home Sunday at the age of 95, according to his wife.

The man had a legendary acting career. So many iconic movies he was in. The Godfather 1 and 2, Apocalypse Now, The Natural, Network, Sling Blade, etc. He definitely left his mark.

It's not the greatest movie, but he was fantastic in Days of Thunder. He had the ability to immediately jump a film up a few levels.

That's actually the first movie I thought of when I heard he had passed. He was absolutely fantastic as Tom Cruise's crew chief and father figure. He brought gravitas to any role he was in.

Boy, we lost a great one here. A+++ actor in my book. I always called him a "Clint Eastwood Level" actor. And Clint is getting up there as well. We could lose him soon too. Sometimes I think Duvall, Eastwood, or Sam Elliot could handle America's military and we could all sleep well at night.

I saw a listing today of his consensus top 5 roles and Gus McCrae of Lonesome Dove was not among them - just a demonstration of what an amazing and broadly-talented actor he was. No complaint from me - just amazement at what all he did do so well.

Gosh damn, how did I forget he was the original Ned Pepper. One of my favorite actors in one of my favorite films. Hat tip for that, sir.

It certainly wasn't one of his most prominent roles, but I saw this at a pretty young age and I'm not sure a complete dickhead of a father can be portrayed any better. Powerful. He just makes you cringe the entire movie...

I think he peaked in Days of Thunder**

The Judge was a movie he did with Robert Downey that has some intense personal sentimentality for me. My favorite Duvall movie.

Seriously, the greatest living American actor is no more. First Gene Hackman and now this. Pacino, DeNiro, and Freeman are on the clock now.

Yeah, he also did a lot of tv throughout the 60's. If you look back at that stuff his acting chops are evident.

Bullitt is a great film - his part is very small. His first significant role was a number of years earlier - Boo in TKM 1962.
