Damn, I didn't know he was still living in this decade. RIP Big guy.
He was a great coach and a good person. RIP
Got to see him speak at Rupp once. Forget the year but it was a motivational conference that also had Steve Forbes and Colin Powell.
What makes a great coach like Lou Holtz? Lots of coaches know X’s and O’s but few can match his success. What made him (and other great coaches) so special?
One of the worst broadcasting decisions ever made was when he was working in studio and they had him give a fake halftime speech on air.
Funny story he told on ESPN pre-game show about visiting nursing homes in retirement years to give back. While chatting with residents gathered in wheelchairs around the nurses' station ....
Holtz: Mam, do you know who I am ??
Resident: No, I don't, but if you'll go up there and ask that lady at the big desk .. she'll tell you who you are !!
