Sad to hear. I just read also on here that his daughter was also on board. That was not initially reported.
Kobe was one of the greatest NBA players in my mind, because he could do it from any area of the court.
Prayers to the family and for survivors of all involved in the crash.

Jerry West is arguably the greatest figure in NBA history - between being one of the 10-12 greatest players ever and also being, arguably, the greatest team builder ever. But of all the relationships he's had with players, I suspect he was most fond of Kobe. You know this is killing him.

A news guest was saying Kobe lived in Newport Beach which is in Orange County. The closest airport is John Wayne. We flew into that airport in late 2018 to go to Disney. Newport Beach is one of the closest beaches to Disney and the airport.

Looks like the chopper had 2 flights today. One from Long Beach to SNA which is John Wayne Airport. The second was from SNA to the youth game in Thousand Oaks I think I read earlier, where it crashed in Calabasas. I do mapping so that yellow line ends close to there. Click the plus sign on the map to zoom in to either site.

I was more talking about the flight altitude and speed. There were some big differences in numbers about half way through

Not much there to read. Looked up the ADS-B data and it shows major fluctuations in their descent rate before impact at nearly 5000 ft per minute. That would suggest they were attempting to auto rotate which in turn shows an engine failure/malfunction. At the rate of impact, they didnt feel a thing. That's not survivable.

That would suggest they were attempting to auto rotate

Im dumb. Does that mean they were struggling with control?

WTF? Just saw this. That's horrible. The guy was doing all kinds of cool things now retired. Hell, he won an oscar a year or so ago. Sucks! It just shows you how life is a precious gift and any goodbye could be the last time you see someone so never leave mad. RIP KOBE.

Helicopters always seemed sketchy to me. No way in hell, I would ever get on one now. Almost did in the Smokies and those look really sketchy to me. No thanks.

It's a maneuver to try and set down after an engine failure. Very difficult. I'm just speculating though. There could be numerous reasons for the rapid changes in descent rate.
