He may have been an Ole Miss QB. but he will always have a special place in my memory.
1966. Pleiku Vietnam...as a consolation prize a few of us soldiers from the 937th Combat Engineers got to attend a Nancy Sinatra performance one afternoon at the Pleiku air field. There was 150 or so men in our company, (a pretty large company). We had drawn names out of a helmet to see who would go to The Bob Hope show a week earlier. Only 15 could go, leaving 135 guys disappointed. To salve our hurt feelings our CO allowed about 25 of us to go see Nancy Sinatra when she came through the following week. Her backup Band was Jim Weatherly and The Gordian Knot. Right off the bat some soldier in the front yelled "go to hell Ole Miss." Weatherly came to the mike and said you must be a State grad or an LSU grad.
Nancy those guys put on a great show. It was the only entertainment that I got to attend during my tour of duty.
She had the shortest mini skirt that I have ever seen and those "made for walking boots."
