I was a Junior in HS when Tres Hombres came out. First it heard in a friend's VW bug that was loaded with sound. We worked together and he came up to me and said, after work I got something you need to hear. Work ended, we got in his car, we lit one up and he put on La Grange and I thought my head was going to explode. The sound that was being made by those 3 guys was unlike anything we had heard. I saw them for the first time a few months later when they opened for Marshall Tucker Band. I also saw them open for the Stones in the Cotton Bowl on the Tattoo You tour. May you RIP Frank Beard, you, Dusty and Billy gave us and left us with some great music and we Thank You.

That just about sums up my younger days. Thanks for the nostalgia.

Kinda think I caught them in Rupp, which could only have been in ‘86, but the opening act, Jimmy Barnes, doesn’t ring a bell.

When I was young, I only thought of ZZ Top because of the Eliminator album and the cool cars and hot girls in their music videos. When I got older and my music taste grew I quickly realized that Eliminator paled in comparison to Rio Grande Mud, Tres Hombres and Fandango. Like Rush, those 3 dudes sounded bigger than they were. Fantastic band. RIP Frank Beard.
