Dusty 5 years ago and now Frank. They (Billy and Frank) replaced Dusty with Elwood, wonder if Billy will keep going now? He sounds like he'll play till he can't play any more if you listen to interviews.

What kind of people are/were these dudes? I can't help but see them as being good ole boys but wouldn't be surprised if they were total ****-birds.

I would have the opinion its amazing how long these guys are living. I have never heard ZZ discuss theirs habits but I guarantee they were partying hard. I have heard several rockers talking about a quart of vodka a day plus heroin. And here they are. Still kicking *** on stsge in their 70s. Edited to correct heroine to heroine. Tho I'm sure they banged several young heroines backstage

In Memphis for a meeting in the late 80"s sitting at the Peabody bar about 4 one afternoon . Dusty sat down on the stool next to me . I did a double take and looked at him and said "you aren't" and he laughed and replied "yep" . He let me buy him a beer and we talked and laughed about 15 mins . Super nice guy . They loved to hang out in the Delta back then and we saw them one night several years later at Lusco's in Greenwood, again they were very nice .

Read an article an hour ago, frank was a drug guy back in the day. They gave no timeline. The band took a year off, he got clean and has been since. Again, no timeline in this article.

I will say, I follow cheap trick and they announced abrupt cancel of a concert they had last month with zztop. They did a free show somewhere to replace it which was insanely awesome, but it was cited for health reasons. Article from earlier today did say frank died in hospice with friends and family around. So, just guess would be sudden and terminal, not a drug thing.

My aunt and uncle worked at the Peabody in the 80s and got to know them pretty well. Super nice guys. Easy going.

Showing my age here.
I saw ZZ Top live and in person back in the 70s in the old “Cow Barn” MSU Animal Husbandry Building. It had dirt floors, but the sound was awesome. MSU had some awesome concerts back in the day.

I had a birthday party in the mid 90's and got a yellow cassette player, Sony I think, as a gift. My dad gave me the ZZ Top Eliminator tape. I don't have kids but I guess this would be the equivalent of me not knowing what to give my son so I gift him the Californication CD and let him thank me later. It obviously made an impact because I remember it 30 years later. Been a fan ever since if I wasn't already before then. Saw them in Memphis 12ish years ago, Blackberry smoke opened for them, that's when I became a fan of theirs.
Saw ZZ Top again at the hump. RIP

I saw ZzTop at The Wharf in OBA last year, I think in the fall. Place was half empty. Jeff Beck opened for them. Awesome concert. They played so long that when they left the stage and came back out I thought for the encore when it actually was a midway break. When they came back out we started making our way to the gate and they kept playing so we turned around and went back to our seats.

I saw a great Netflix documentary on them a few years ago. He talked about their drug years and said something like "I loved cocaine. It was great. I had to stop doing it but I loved it" I laughed pretty hard and loved his honesty.

Apparently the band is gonna cancel 2 shows but continue the tour this weekend. Wild...

I saw them in the Jackson MS Coliseum on March 19, 1977. Point Blank opened for them and I don't remember much about them. I've still got photos I took of ZZ Top with a Kodak camera and some of those flash cubes that you plugged into the top of the camera. We were standing at the door when they opened them and ran to the stage and were leaning up against the fence. For an old Kodak w/ a 15 year old photographer they were good because I was right there on the stage, would have been really good w/ a good 35mm camera. I'll have to pull them out and maybe make some photos of the photos and show them
