What a hooper! One of the all time greats. Syracuse Nats., 6'8'' could do it all. Shot over 90% for free throws over an 18 yr career--two handed underhand shot from the line. These college guys who can't put it in the ocean from the line with no one guarding them should dig out some old tapes & practice. It's a soft shot & gets a nice soft play off the rim. The other guy who shot them that way & shot over 90% over a long career was Rick Barry.

Dolph Schayes (not "Shayes") and Bob Pettit were amazing players who are largely forgotten. Schayes was a New Yorker who played at NYU. An engineering degree, too, just in case the basketball career didn't work out.

Certainly beg your pardon. From the Bronx, by the way.

I also followed the NBA when Dolph was one of the biggest stars. It is sad to see another great pass on. It makes me realize how old I am getting as well.

My memory of Dolph was when he was coaching 76ers in early 60's..They had preseason camp at Margate JCC..Wilt would arrive in his lavender Bentley two weeks late and run from one end of the court to the other and yell out to Dolph "Coach,I am ready" The rest of the team whom were busting their butts for two weeks just shook their heads.,...RIP Dolph and Wilt

Agreed

Paul Arizin and Tommy Heinsohn were 2 guys who also had great duals with Schayes.

Amazingly Heinsohn is still color man on Celtic home games I'm told.

And a proud icon of the Jewish community, as well. In fact, besides Dolph and Danny, can't think of ANY Jewish Nba guys.
