While not a country music fan, I recognize Dolly as a true national treasure. Seemed like a really kind and sweet person.
I still find it hilarious that she entered a Dolly Parton look-a-like contest in LA years ago and lost.
RIP to a truly decent human being who never forgot what it was like to be poor no matter how much money she had.
Dolly was one entertainer who seemed sincere and honest. I always felt she was who she was, no pretentious act. A very generous individual who gave back to her roots and helped many children. Really going to miss this celebrity much more than some others. True American girl. RIP, Miss Dolly.

Yep, she was a real one. I’m not ashamed to say that “coat of many colors” still makes me tear up every time I hear it.
There are not many better people on the face of this earth than Dolly. Her literacy program was a godsend for so many in this country. She will be missed.

She was one of the very last universally loved Americans. Who else could be both a country music icon and an LGBT icon at the same time? Can’t think of anyone who ever disliked her.

I just Googled to make sure it was true this time. I was shocked to see she was only 80. Granted, she's looked the same for essentially 50 yrs...but I thought she looked 50 yrs old 50 yrs ago.
Dolly did her part in trying to make the world a better place, especially for children, it is up to all of us to continue to honor her legacy by doing our part. May she RIP.
She grew up dirt poor literally. She made it huge and never forgot her roots. My family had a condo in Pigeon Forge for years and I always loved going to Dollywood and learning about her life down there. RIP Queen of real country.

My mom was born in 1946 as well. Every time I see someone die at her age it makes me worry.

That is awesome. I know she has made sure over 300 million books have made it into children’s hands like that over the years. Truly great. She also set up a fund so every kid who graduated 8th grade received $500. Pretty cool way to spur education.

She transcended being a country singer and became a master entertainer. Not just C&W but pop charts. Also actress, spokesperson etc. very few people can do this.
