That 86 team was probably the best ever. Even though I wasn't a Portland fan I rooted for him in 1977. What a talent and a great person.

Old fogies recall N.C.A.A. and high schools banned dunking when Kareem and shortly later Walton dominated. But obviously both guys had no problem scoring even with that goofy rule that was soon reversed, You could have a good argument over who was the better UCLA center, but Walton’s injuries in the pros limited his still very good pro career. I especially appreciated Walton’s great ability to pass the ball, which in the pre-three point shot era wasn’t typically a great strength of centers. Of course, these days centers better be able to pass because everything revolves around three point shots.

My mom and dad met Bill and his wife many years ago at Lauritzen Gardens in Omaha. Bill was very kind and gracious. His 30 for 30 was excellent. I was hoping he'd call some Nebrasketball TV games for the New Big 10. Thanks for the long, strange trip, Bill.

Bill was hard to dislike and easy to love. His positivity, wit and charm are enduring… RIP

It was always interesting listening to him doing commentary for Pac 12 games. Certainly one of a kind - you never knew what was going to come out of his mouth!

Walton could be annoying with all his cerebral material during a game but I can’t knock him thinking the way he did about life. I always agreed with his abstract thoughts. Always thought he was probably a great dude to those closer to him.

The Celtics did win to advance to the finals on the day of his death, as I predicted in the NBA Playoffs thread. It’s called ritual sacrifice and it virtually never fails. Easiest money in life. This is a fairly big one for the Celtics so it could mean winning it all. Will do more research.

Celtics were already up 3-0 in this series, clearly they were the better team and the regular season shows the same. Pacers finished 6th in the lousy East to the Celtics, who finished first. I wonder if they are just the much better team?

Man, this is a tough loss. What an original Bill Walton was. He was a bit eccentric but his insights were fantastic. It's a shame that his basketball career was hampered by the chronic foot injuries. He would have been up there with the all time greats.

actually, i could not stand the guy. he constantly belittled everything east of the rockies as unworthy of consideration. the b12 was a truck stop conference. and his politics were left of zero. he actually said liberty university was ill named. i wish death to no one. we all will too soon. and i honor walton for fighting cancer without me even knowing it. but for his values, he was beyond unremarkable. he was a bought player at ucla. a great pro, albeit oft injured. and a loud-mouth common tater.

Of course they are better but it just so happens to line up. Hours later. Again. Multiple times on here I’ve gone over the extensive list of dead superstar athletes’ main pro teams winning every next game that takes place after their death.

The BROWNS drubbed the Joe Burrow-led Bengals 24-3 in week 1 after Jim Brown died in May 2023 for God’s sake! Burrow was 14/31 for 82 yards! Worst game of his college/pro career?? Maybe..

Bears were 0-4, 10 point dogs to Washington last season and got a blowout win, hours after Butkus died. Packers won after Reggie White, Steelers after Harris, Raiders after Madden, Chiefs after Dawson and the list goes on. Celtics also won after Bill Russel died. It would be refreshing if someone could name even a couple teams that lost in this scenario. There honestly should be a few otherwise it would be even more sad that almost no one has caught on to this clear-as-day pattern.

I know you know there are a ton of things in this world that you’ll never find unless you are looking for them. <<<Bill Walton has probably said this

just this season, George McGinnis passed away on Dec 14th. he was one of the greatest players in Pacers history and a main reason they were invited to the NBA from the ABA, where he led Indy to 2 titles.

Pacers' next game was the following day in DC against the worst team in the league. they lost to the horrible Wizards 137-123.

that's one example after 45 seconds of looking.

confirmation bias is a hell of a drug.

Walton played 2 seasons in Boston. He played 10 games one of those seasons. 7.6 ppg in the other. But the league based a playoff game on that player. Ok.

Mental illness is a huge problem in this country.....

We have 1! Nice job! In the spirit of integrity, the Lakers lost the game that they actually *played* after Kobe died to the Blazers. They were supposed to play (get this) the OTHER LA team, the next day and it was postponed due to his death. Kind of a weird one there..They did however win the (checks notes) championship a few months later…

Sometimes the ritual deaths will also cause mediocre teams to make improbable runs deeper into into the playoffs than expected (the Pacers)

45 more seconds later:

Guy Lafleur died 4/22/22

Habs lose to Sens 6-4 the next day.

there are countless examples.

my guess is your "clear-as-day pattern" is returning under 50% winners.

also, Bill Russell died at the end of July, during the NBA off season. the following season (last year), they lost AT HOME in Game 7 to Miami in the ECF - literally the antithesis of Bill Russell's entire existence.

Ok. Then if you’re going to make reading errors, it kind of makes it pointless for us to talk to each other then wouldn’t you say?
I've now posted 5 examples of legends passing and their teams losing the following game

took me 10 minutes

maybe the next RIP thread will be for you posting here?

great job! Maybe it’s a feel thing for why I’m winning with the strategy. Timing, amount of media coverage. I’m here for the long haul though and will keep posting my bets as I see them playing out. Thanks for offering more to look at, knowledge is power!

For those that never saw him play the 73 Finals was one of the best performances of all time, he was 21-22 from the field and scored 44 points. This video shows how quick he was.
