Give Ricky the keys and 20 mil in NIL .. you’d have teams hiding… Probably a pipe dream but
That was Pitino trying to get back into good graces with BBN. Or maybe Pope begged him… begged another current coach of Saint Johns to come vouch for him. And it worked.I didn’t have a lot of respect for Pitino to start with. It’s kinda hard to forget him on the Louisville bench. I have zero respect for him now after putting out that video trying to help get buy in from BBN on the hiring of Pope. If Pope was so great, why didn’t Pitino ever have him on his staff, ever? Pitino likely knew we were cooked with Pope.
Absolutely not!Give Ricky the keys and 20 mil in NIL .. you’d have teams hiding… Probably a pipe dream but![]()
I agree with the sentiment. Definitely get a young one like Golden or somebody but the chances of them being there as long as Pitino are about the same. Say Pitino at most has 3-5 years left coaching… Golden might get a NBA call before then. Or maybe not. It’s a risk no matter who you hire.Give it up on Rick P. He's a very old coach, a good one, but old. We don't need that type of guy and then be searching for a replacement again in a couple of years. We need a somewhat younger coach who has shown success. Golden may never come to UK but he is more the example of the type of guy we should be looking for.
I want Bad Cop and Badder Cop!Only way I want Pope back is if Rick Pitino comes to be his co head coach to teach him the ways and be the bad cop . Because obviously good cop good cop is not working
Pitino is loyal to his former players to a fault. Another example of that is his hiring Andre McGee as an assistant.I didn’t have a lot of respect for Pitino to start with. It’s kinda hard to forget him on the Louisville bench. I have zero respect for him now after putting out that video trying to help get buy in from BBN on the hiring of Pope. Can you imagine the national spotlight on Kentucky if Pitino came back after 30 years??
Do.you think he'd jump at the opportunity? Can you imagine if he came back and won a championship. I would be more surprised if they were smart enough to hire him again. I wouldnt be surprised if he won another title, before he is done coaching.
He will soon be 74.Give Ricky the keys and 20 mil in NIL .. you’d have teams hiding… Probably a pipe dream but![]()
I’ve laughed for 20 secs straight. Pitino being one evil sob lol like plankton from SpongeBob.I didn’t have a lot of respect for Pitino to start with. It’s kinda hard to forget him on the Louisville bench. I have zero respect for him now after putting out that video trying to help get buy in from BBN on the hiring of Pope. I will take the chance of the NBA come calling. Pitino’s run was awesome. Give me a repeat of that every 7-8 years.I agree with the sentiment. Definitely get a young one like Golden or somebody but the chances of them being there as long as Pitino are about the same. Say Pitino at most has 3-5 years left coaching… Golden might get a NBA call before then. Or maybe not. It’s a risk no matter who you hire.
I would say if there’s a hall of famer still coaching you try to get him. Or I wouldn’t be mad if they tried. Pope is about everything opposite of what’s needed at the moment. Even his UK passion seems forced at this point. Whole thing seems fake and corny.
Tell me who’s in the house tonight wasn’t even his thing. Using other coaches for clout. This guys a pecker wood just like Mitch.
Do.you think he'd jump at the opportunity?
Tom Izzo’s 71 …Get over the pitino glory days dream. You guys are worse than IU fans and Brad stevens
He was being a good sport after Barnhart and Capilouto gave him the shaft just like they keep giving us the shaft. Tf else was he supposed to do?didn't Pitino endorse this clown of a Coach we have now ?

Nah, Pitino wanted us to hire Pelphry, Ford, Pope, etc. All horrible coaches. Even if he wasn't 73, I'd want no part of him just based on this. It's clear he doesn't care if Kentucky is in the best hands.Give Ricky the keys and 20 mil in NIL .. you’d have teams hiding… Probably a pipe dream but![]()
Hurley sucked when he started out at Rhode Island, he was 45-49 his first 3 seasons there, got them to the NIT his 3rd year. They were about to fire Coach K at Duke until he got Johnny Dawkins & they made that 1986 run, lost to UofL for the title. Pitino was the better coach of the 3 when just starting out at Boston U before Providence. You're right, Pitino is too old now, we need a youthful coach. Golden runs good stuff & he's like 40 I believe, however, was last year more him than Walter Clayton Jr? I know this much, had it not been for WCJ, they would've lost in last year's NCAA tournament, he made baskets when they absolutely needed them. The jury is still out on him, let's see what he does moving forward. I feel like Pope is going to get the 3rd year, if he doesn't do something really good then he may be gone. Most of us love the idea of having one of our own coaching but to only a certain point, losing home games, getting blown out, not being able to get the big recruits, playing on the first day of the SEC tournament & losing 14 games ain't gonna cut it here. If Pope gets fired, I wouldn't mind having Golden as our coach with the resources here, but would he be the next Pitino in this sense? Constantly having to worry about him wanting the next challenge, the NBA.but MaRk bEaT piTiNo - in a game one time !?!?!? tHaT mEaNs hE’s bEtTeR!
You guys lol. This is exactly what Hurley did, and Golden, and even Coach K. He’s right on schedule historically. If you discount the other 10 years he’s been coaching.
Why would we want a guy who’s won multiple national championships to bridge this? Like Golden, we don’t know about him yet! You would have fired coach K man! Damn!
But Rick is too old now truth be told. Could have done it when we hired Mark and probably should have.
That's something to think about, however, here's something else to think about, Pitino doesn't drink Bourbon & smoke cigars, he works out, runs everyday (bangs women on restaurant tablesHe will soon be 74.
Rupp was forced to retire at 70.
I can.... a lot of negative spotlight and laughing at Kentucky for taking back a has-been coach that trashed them for years. Can you imagine the national spotlight on Kentucky if Pitino came back after 30 years??
pretty solid pointI didn’t have a lot of respect for Pitino to start with. It’s kinda hard to forget him on the Louisville bench. I have zero respect for him now after putting out that video trying to help get buy in from BBN on the hiring of Pope. If Pope was so great, why didn’t Pitino ever have him on his staff, ever? He also saw it as a way to gig Cal.He was being a good sport after Barnhart and Capilouto gave him the shaft just like they keep giving us the shaft. Tf else was he supposed to do?
He also saw it as a way to get back in good graces around the state, especially so he could feel welcomed going to Keeneland and Churchill to watch racing and pal with thoroughbred owners. The stuff with him on the sideline at a football game was laughable, I thought. He also saw it as a way to gig Cal.
I’m sorry he butthurt you so badly talking Pope up.Nah, he could have just told Pope congrats and such and not be telling us fans that a guy with a career .638 winning percentage is the right guy for the job and for us to be patient as fans and all that other nonsense he was speaking about Pope.
He will be 74 on September 18th ...Ratino is what 70 or so, he isn't exactly killing it St Johns . His era has LONG come and gone. Let it go.
