He is recruiting and has a good mix of veterans. That has always been the special sauce. Easier said than done.

Cal is not going to dazzle you with X's and O's, never has never will. He wasn't hire for that. His claim to fame is recruiting the best high school players, and getting them to play together at the right time. He was quoted at his first press conference " l recruit the best of the best." This is where it has dropped off the the last 5 years. The best of the best are not coming here. Of course he still getting good talent, but not the elite. This good talent is still leaving for the NBA. The past five years, he has reloaded with good talent and grad transfers (if the is no good returning players). This years class was over rated with no point guard, and the grad transfers are under performing. Bottom line is, his best teams have returning players, until Cal stops pushing players to the NBA, this disaster could happen again.

Barnes has won 6 of last 9 against Cal, or Tennessee has won 6 of Last 9 against Kentucky. For all who say that Cal needs one more year, think about that.

Even sadder, I saw this stat....

The Vols have overcome double-digit second half deficits in five of those six Tennessee wins.

This should tell anyone paying attention that something's going on well beyond "this year", "these players just suck", and "covid". We've been conned by a pro.

If Cal starts getting generational NBA talent again, we will beat most of these three star laden teams. Until it really matters.
