He doesn't warrant more money than he already makes. If NU has a big year, I'm sure Matt will stay, if we struggle down the stretch (again) he isn't nearly as attractive anyway.

I think regardless DR goes to Miami after the season. If he does, that's not all bad because Rhule would get a dual threat QB, which he wants, and Dana suddenly has a QB who can threaten the defense.

I'm neutral on both guys, I say let them do what's best for their careers. Either guy leaving would really hurt the program. Maybe some coaches and kids follow Rhule to PSU or hit the portal, and maybe some join Dylan at Miami. We've got lots of Florida kids on the roster.

You realize I say this all tongue in cheek, right? Nobody outside of Rhule, Dannen, Dominic and Dylan know squat.
I don’t disagree that he doesn’t warrant an extension or more money. The question is if PSU offers him more money or years than he has left on his deal with Nebraska. IF Dannen is sold on Rhule it might be the less cost way to go to keep him versus a complete staff upheaval and another national coaching search. 😕. High stakes poker game.

But don't act like you've got pocket A's when you're holding the 3 of clubs and the 8 of hearts in the hole.

I tend to think the fact that he asked to redshirt means he’s more likely transferring.

What was everyone’s thoughts on today’s Rhule press conference?

Mine were - if Julie is on board with moving back to Penn State, then he is leaving to go coach PSU if offered.

in terms of coaching accomplishments Franklin is over Rhule. So if Franklin was judged to be insufficient as a coach for Penn State and their desire is to have a coach proven to be better, that limits them to just a handful of coaches. And Rhule is not among that group. The problem for Penn State is that of the handful, a couple are retired and the others may not be interested in leaving their school. Maybe they snag someone from the NFL. But if Rhule does get a chance to say yes, we will know they didn’t get their first or second choice.
This has a real Solich fired vibe. I wouldn’t want to be the coach that follows, cause the same fan base that wanted to run Franklin out of town will look back at him fondly the first time the new coach hits adversity.
I see an entitled fan base that might be about to experience some things they don’t like on the losing front.

His body language and over-explaining at today’s presser reeked of “I’m absolutely accepting if they offer”

Which isnt surprising
Rhule … over-explaining … in a press conference… yep this is a first. Must be something brewing. Lol

Same as before the presser- if they make a lucrative offer(or maybe any offer) he is gone.

If we are being honest, why wouldn’t he go? Played there, grew up cheering for them, met his wife there, more in state talent, AD is a close friend etc etc. the only argument is they have higher expectations, but any coach at that level has such a big ego they don’t even consider failure as a possibility.

Rumor is he met with the team already and told them that he has no interest in the PSU job, clearly that doesn't mean anything but that is the rumor.
Any truth to this from media? I’m not being a jerk, just curious.

If you are Penn State...Is Rhule really your first choice? I saw the names of Eli Drinkwitz and Kenny Dillingham floated yesterday. Both are younger than Rhule and would certainly think PSU is an upgrade from their current gigs. Joey McGuire from TTech will surely get interest if he takes them to the playoff. Even Matt Campbell's name was mentioned. CIgnetti was mentioned, of course, but he will be 65 next year. I'd think PSU would want a guy they figure will want to coach for 10 years.

Any coach from the Big 12 or ACC whose stock rises this year would have to love the idea of jumping to the Big Ten....at one of the top football programs in the league.

In order for Rhule's stock to rise in the eyes of PSU, he is going to have to take NU on a run this year....probably to the playoff. We'd all take a playoff bid in exchange for a coaching search this winter.

Looking at the roster, it has a very next year=big year feel. Barring injury, Barney, Raiola, Hunter, EJ and Lindenmeyer should all be near the peak of their playing abilities, and a lot of young kids are already playing on D and will be veterans next year. Nwaneri, Shavers, Davis, and Marshall should all be very solid. If I'm Rhule, do I bag out on what I've built to take over a program where the fans and boosters are upset and entitled and will be so until a stretch of losing wring that out. Franklin is their Solich.

Matt would generate the same level of excitement as when NU hired Riley.

I would like to see Rhule stay and finish the job of getting us back into the top 10 and making the playoffs year in and year out, but I don't consider him irreplacable either.

hiring Franklin if Rhule bolts isn't a terrible idea either. Weird, but not terrible.

Going to be a lot of good job openings this year...if Rhule goes on to have a great season here, PSU won't be the only school that comes sniffing around...
