Am I the only one rooting for VCU? They are down. I hope they come back and win. Sorry Hurley.

they are going to go either way most likely
The "bractketology" guy from ESPN has both Rhode Island and Syracuse on the bubble and suggests it's one or the other.
Hmmm..maybe I need to rethink this and root for Rhode Island?

Hurley got called for a T disputing a terrible call where the VCU knocked over the URI player while going for the ball...tight finish

The defensive principals and "hedge" on teams that try to run pick and roll or pick and pop against URI are always well defended....they are well coached defensively, similar to what we did this year....the only difference is the talent level is down a notch or two and URI has mobile bigs that can defend and run back towards the post before allowing a drive to the basket.

URI is very deliberate on offense, they look like a smaller quicker version of what RU will hopefully look like with better players in a couple of years into our recruiting and system. Lots of similarities when watching URI/Hurley play.

An Ironic draw would be matching them up against one of the other last 4 in like Wake Forest, where they want to run/score and press....that would be a good Tuesday or Wednesday matchup.

Looks like Danny's gamble will work out. His phone will be very busy the next few weeks

Well, on the bright side, maybe this knocks out Jim Boeheim.
Any indication if Danny is looking to make a move after the tournament?
I hope he doesn't string along the other university to negotiate extension and up in contract with Rhode Island. He's done that a time or two. Hiring ADs beware.

I could see him in the mix at NC State & Illinois. Gtown works too. I'd somebody grabs Cooley, Providence make sense.

Thought Rhode was doomed after bad Fordham lost. Turned it on. Kudos to Hurley.

Good luck to Danny if he decides to search elsewhere. good coach. Keep him out of the B1G 10. Don't want another Jersey guy to recruit against.

Bobby Hurley is a good example of how hard it is and Pikiell won as many games this year as Bobby.

Exactly what has hurley done? Not saying he has done a bad job but RI one quick tourney appear and now he gets offers? RI in a weak league and wont last long. Not sold at all, Rutgers hired the coach we needed.

Hurley gambled and won big time good job by him.
I honestly thought they would have been better considering the hype we were giving him. We definitely love to exaggerate everyone's impact and performance levels here.

I am happy with Pike hopefully we build him some facilities and quickly so he has a shot to actually recruit the type of players we need. Hurley on the other hand actually played a tough schedule this year with a top 30 RPI. Our strength of schedule was next to last his year as the main reason we started 11-1. Coach Pike did the best he could but we finished dead last in our conference and if you listen to the experts a down BIG Ten conference. Hurley played a tough schedule if you go by RPI and is now a NCAA Tournament coach. He turned us down because we would not promise the upgrades needed in order to recruit here. That is why he turned us down IMO. God willing Pike gets his faculties ASAP because recruits are not going to be happy with blueprints they want to see shovels in the ground. As you all know we are 30 Million dollars short. To minimize Hurley is just Butthurt IMO he is going dancing and a bigger payday soon.

I am glad we got Pikiell. I think he is a better coach than Danny. Hurley returned so much talent and I think his team was ranked like #16 in the preseason. They were like the last team to qualify for the NCAA. They made it just under the wire. I don't think the A-10 is nearly as good as it use to be. I don't know if RI will be any better next season. I like Pikiell's presence on the court much more than Hurley's as well. Danny is often a hot head yelling & screaming quite often. We don't need that at RU. Steve is perfect for us.

Rhode Island was slowed at times during the season by injuries. Hassan Martin missed five and played a lot more at less than 100% following a torn quadriceps. That's a tough injury for an undersized big, who is all about power and explosiveness. The starting pg struggled physically then missed eight games after they shut him down to figure out his medical condition. He's back now but with a minutes restriction. Their best player (Matthews) was coming back from an ACL tear. He was inconsistent but is playing his best right now and was named conference tournament MOP. Hurley seems happy at URI and has shown real growth as a coach. It seems like a great match there for now. His contract negotiations have been more about program enhancements- things like a larger salary pool for assistants, more charter flights for travel, even a training table wasn't a standard part of the program. Even by Atlantic 10 standards, Rhode Island was lacking. Once they got as healthy as they're going to get this season, they won 12 of their last 14, including a current 8 game winning streak.
