It's amazing how mesmerized fans are based on numbers vs actual play.

Here is a good way to think about this.

If an Atlantic 10 player is averaging 12 to 13 PPG in 34 minutes a game, would that player be able to average 12 to 13 PPG in the ACC or B1G or SEC with the same minutes, against better competition and better players/coaching??.....Highly unlikely....

If the player isn't good enough to play 34 minutes at the ACC or B1G level, that player is not going to come close to 13PPG, he's probably closer to 4 to 5 PPG in a league like the B1G, with 18 minutes a game.

Martin from my watching him live a couple of years ago, is not a jumpshot player, he's more of a run and jump player in transition. I don't see him as a starter at a higher level than A-10....he's better than Peter Kiss, but not better than anyone else on RUs roster at guard or forward.

Or if I place this in reverse and placed Caleb McConnell, Montez Mathis, Geo Baker, Yeboah, Harper Jr at Rhode Island and gave them 34 minutes a game, would their numbers match or exceed Martin's??? My safe guess is 100% yes, they would all be better (based on the numbers for sure, and based on being better overall players in general).

It's not amazing, it's common sense. If someone sees a player is transfering, the first pieces of info they will see are height weight and stats. If you haven't seen the player play before, that's what you have to go off of. It's not a tough concept

Are you suggesting that at his new destination he will be expected to contribute at the statistical level he is contributing at Rhode Island? It will be interesting to see where he lands. By your comments, you’d predict him landing on a team like Fairfield rather than Rutgers.

He's not leaving RI to go to Farifield. He's betting on himself. He's got go #'s that are worthy of a lower half Power 5 team:
6'6", 205 lbs
15 points and had 8 rebounds at Dayton
9 points and 5 rebounds at Maryland
10 points and 5 rebounds at West Virginia

May not start, but he's definitely worth a look for a lot of teams including Rutgers in most years but not this year. Surely UConn or St. John or Pitt or BC or SHU or PROV or somebody can use this guy. He's the kind of guy who gets his points and isn't really taking them away from someone else on the team ...if he cuts own on those 3pts attempts.

According to Rothstein, a lot of quality schools are interested. Also tough to score a lot of points at RI when Fatts Russell eating up all the shots. Time will tell.

I’ve never seen someone take so long just to reach their point. Nice job
