So it was essentially $125k per year. He said they didn't make direct offers to a teenager (him), that it was through coaches and parents in those days. He certainly never insinuates that it was UK.

Why is an actual fact like the adjusted value of a dollar somehow funny? In the 80s 500k was perceived as $1.2mm is today. The NBA salary was 300k. That is not funny or in this case irrelevant. I did not hear his actual statement so it is possible he used air quotes and was using $500k as a generic ishTon of money. If he was trying to be serious about the amount...he is nuts.
