As Bill Walton said in HIS book....(paraphrase) He took a payout to go to the NBA...

$500,000 is a totally believable amount ; i.e Cam Newton, Zion Williamson, etc. It's out there...
I'm inclined to believe it. In my lifetime he's the only player of that caliber the state has produced as far as hype and excitement. We've produced some good talent. Some even having great pro careers, like Rondo, but Chapman was on another level coming into his freshman season. And he delivered.

If you think it's outside the realm of possibility that someone, even us, offered Rex a huge sum of money to play basketball, I'm not sure what planet you're living on.

It's interesting that Mills was a setup and the Davis story wasn't true and Bam didn't get paid and Rex is lying but we believe virtually everything that comes out about other programs or players getting paid.

I mean, what are the odds? The whole sport is crawling with illegal benefits and has been for 60 years or more, but we're always clean and no one else is? Cmon lol.

The reality is it doesn't matter. Like at all. It's like steroids in baseball. Anything that widespread and pervasive is basically going to balance out in the end.

But feel free to go on twitter and tell Rex what you think. I'm sure he'll hate that. Guy can't stand arguing or attention.

Absolutely, and while I'm a little skeptical about $500K, you'd have to be pretty naive to think Chapman (and others) weren't offered $$$$ by schools, including UK.

All of that notwithstanding, Rex is full of ****. I do think the Emery envelope was a bit suspicious. Other stuff, I don't doubt.

Agreed...

there were college running backs way back in the day that said they were offered "500,000" to go to certain colleges... So, that number has been thrown out there for other elite level athletes...

Who knows...

I'm inclined not to believe or like anything about REX theses days, but don't doubt for a minute that he wasn't offered money. Heck, it happens all the time NOW, and even with FBI wiretaps, nothing can be done about it...

Lotta hate for a Wildcat on this board, probably an all time player too!! SMH
And has done nothing but embarrass himself and the program since he last wore a uniform. I hope he’s clean and healthy for him and his family’s sake, but it doesn’t excuse him for spewing nothing but verbal diarrhea out his mouth for the past 10+ years. Especially when some of it has hurt the program IMO.

With UL's corrupt history and the story of him wanting to go to UL, I would say it was Louisville who offered the money. Fortunately, Wayne Chapman saw the big picture. Too bad his son isn't quite as wise.

I heard him say on his podcast that he verbally committed to Denny Crum before Joe B Hall retired.

All that **** has been debunked. The stuff about other schools has been proven with evidence. The stuff about UK has just been words.

yep
i just looked up the average salary for nba players in 1986 it was 370,104

Dominique Wilkins .............. 585,000

so yea he is fos
But, to be fair the $500K could’ve been a 4 year deal paid in one lump sum which would’ve made it $125K/year, which seems realistic if the average NBA salary was $370K at the time. Rex had a legendary HS career & was a big time recruit so I could see this type of offer happening. But if he meant $500K per season then, yeah, he’s totally FOS. 🤣

So do you believe Rex was offered the equivalent of over 1 mil back then? Or is it more likely he he prefers the equivalent of 1 mil Twitter likes today?

It’s obvious which is more likely. Right?
