New to the city. I’m in the Leavenworth area so I don’t want to venture too far west.

Any must haves? Preferably local/non-chains and more of a modern vibe. Partial to steak, burgers, and Mexican but open to all suggestions.

11 Worth was a dump and they deserved what they got. Lisa's Radial Cafe is where it's at.

11-Worth did not deserve to have happened to them, what did happen to them, and it served a lot of people in that area and will be sorely missed. I just cannot fathom how somebody could think it's OK to destroy a business and threaten the employees over a name on a menu....that is ridiculous and intolerant.

The menu item wasn't why they were protested so much as this:

https://www.3newsnow.com/news/local-news/second-day-of-protests-take-place-at-11-worth-cafe

"People gathered for a second day outside of 11-Worth Cafe on Sunday to protest after screenshots of racist Facebook posts made by the owner's son, Tony Caniglia III, circulated online. The owner's son is also an employee at the restaurant."

He said he wanted the cops to start using live rounds on people protesting, among other racist garbage. If it were just the menu item, you can still be protested and engage with the community but it would not have been like this. So when I say, that place was a dump (my opinion, nobody has to agree with it) and they deserve what they got (my opinion, they really did bring this on themselves), this is what I was referring to.

Funny, NONE of you mentioned this part. Why is that?

Block 16.

Block 16 rules! Having said that, do you ever get the feeling though that that place just doesn't understand the concept of "too many ingredients?" It's like they are trying to make their food into this crazy challenge. A burrito with a fried chicken thigh and an ice cream cone in it? Like...chill out guys...damn...

Also, for downtown eating:

All of the mentioned places are great. I would throw in Trini's in the passageway (it's not "good" so much as "familiar") and Nicola's. If you go to North Downtown, Hook and Lime is incredible Mexican food and has the best margaritas in town, in my opinion.

I am in full support of live rounds on them to and don't find it racist at all.

Mitchell said others involved in the protests weren't satisfied with those demands and asked for $500-$1,000 to an African-American organization as well.
Once protesters started showing up, Mitchell said, "the owner got scared."

Despite the owners meeting those demands, planning a donation for $1,000 to the Malcolm X memorial, he said, others said the donation wasn't enough, instead calling for "a seven-figure donation or we're gonna shut it down," which Mitchell called "extortion."

Because they didn't think it was racist. Why would they? Why are you so certain the comments were racist?

Very stupid & reckless comment on the son's part? Absolutely. Did they deserve to get cancelled? Absolutely not as their business practices (how they served & treated their patrons of all colors) was top notch.

If they are smart, they'll re-open in 3 months after the hot heads cool down. This is pure extortion. I love 11worth Cafe. Good food, good prices, generous portions.

I only remember the cockroach in my mom's rice at Trini's.

To be fair, it was at least 20 years ago.

That's still a hard pass for me. I haven't been to Spaghetti Works ever since I found out, from people who worked there, just how filthy the kitchen is and how they get dinged for health code violations constantly.

I mentioned that earlier (see above). Apparently, shooting citizens is something some people who post on this board are ok with.

Shuck's Seafood
Bangkok Kitchen
Ika San Ramen

All amazing restaurants right by you

I think The Blatt and The Mattress Factory are casual dining joints that don't get enough pub for having really good food as well.

Welcome to Omaha, you're in a great part of the city to satisfy basically any food craving!

Oh, I first heard about their problems 15 years ago. I probably haven't had it since 2000? And the stories just keep on keeping on. So, I'm just saying, I don't like to go to places where awful food problems happen.

20 years is along time to pin a place how bad the kitchen is.. If it’s been that bad now a days they would be shut it down by the city inspectors..

And how do you know eleven worth was a dump have you even eaten there..

https://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Restaurant-Report-Card---December-12-235684161.html

"When inspectors visited Spaghetti Works in the Old Market on November 1, they found 25 violations. Inspectors wrote that employees must wash hands during the food prep and that the use of a common towel for hand drying/wiping is prohibited. They found foods that exceeded seven days old, forcing the restaurant to discard ground beef and three pans of lasagna. On top of that, there was no sanitizer in the dishwasher."

This was in 2013. So, it's years old now, but remember, I said these stories have been going around for YEARS about the downtown location.

Sweet Magnolias it great too. Mostly pastries, cookies and cakes, but excellent treats after hitting up Lisa's Radials Cafe.

I agree, I've had a couple things their like they're trying to hard. But other things I've eaten have been awesome, they throw some weird stuff together and it's the bomb. Little hit and miss, just disappointing to drive downtown and pay that much money and not really enjoy it. If I try something new, I kinda stick something that looks familiar.
